Vacancy Announcement – QMS Coordinator

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Quality Management Systems Coordinator for NASFAM Commodity Marketing Exchange (NASCOMEX) Limited, the commercial arm of NASFAM.

The QMS Coordinator is responsible for supporting quality Management Systems, ensuring that the company meets quality assurance requirements for its products, processes and premises according to legislations. The position is also responsible for supporting product development in line with company’s strategic objectives while ensuring that there is day to day compliance of product process documentation.

The position is based at NASCOMEX Offices in Kanengo, Lilongwe and reports to the QMS Manager.

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following;

  1. Proactively identify any quality management loopholes in systems or procedures and work with the QMS Manager and other relevant Departments within the NASFAM system to support the development, improvement and adherence of quality management systems and standards in line with company requirements and objectives
  2. Directly work with key staff on general cleanliness of the factories, warehouses and factory premises in line with set standards including MBS standards/requirements.
  3. Ensure daily factory process paperwork is collated and reviewed and resolve day to day quality or product / process compliance issues in conjunction with the Warehousing and Production teams.
  4. Conduct Goods Manufacturing Practice, Quality System internal audits on defined schedules and audits of HACCP, processes and technical procedural documentation, submit recommendations on preventive and corrective actions from non-conformances identified to QMS Manager
  5. Assist with the development of food products in collaboration with QMS Manager, Agro Processing Manager and other key staff, and set up related internal manufacturing specifications, reviewing and updating them with the production team as required.
  6. Attend all factory trials, ensure all documentation is captured, ensuring that trial samples are sent for microbiological testing, shelf life testing and the organoleptic assessment of products are completed throughout life.

Experience and Qualification

Qualification:  The Quality Management Coordinator must have a minimum qualification of first degree in Environment Science and Technology, Food Technology or any Quality Management related discipline

Experience: At least 5 years practical experience working in a food processing facility

Key Competencies / Attributes and Skills

  1. Knowledge of relevant food safety legislation, HACCP and current MBS standards
  2. Demonstrable experience in conducting and managing Internal Quality Audits is a requirement
  3. Excellent organisation skills with inherent cautiousness for cleanliness and orderliness
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, accurate and precise with demonstrable attention to detail.
  5. IT Literate in Microsoft applications.
  6. A self-motivated with flexible and adaptable working approach, and ability to work as part of a team
  7. Intermediate Food Hygiene qualification would be desirable
  8. Formal qualification in HACCP to Level 3 would be desirable
