Deposit Insurance Corporation (DIC)

On behalf of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (DIC), the Reserve Bank of Malawi invites applications for the following positions, based in Blantyre, on a contract basis of up to two (2) years, renewable subject to satisfactory performance. The DIC commenced operations on 1st October 2023. It is mandated to implement and manage a deposit insurance scheme in Malawi, in accordance with the Deposit Insurance Corporation Act, 2022. SENIOR OFFICER, OPERATIONS ANALYST (1 POSITION)
Reporting to: Manager, Operations

Role Purpose
The Senior Officer, Operations Analyst, is pivotal in safeguarding the financial system by ensuring the effective operation of the deposit insurance scheme.

This role involves comprehensive analysis, diligent examination, and robust stakeholder engagement to ensure compliance and mitigation of risks within insured institutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Calculate and collect premiums from insured institutions
  2. Monitor and identify risks to the Deposit Insurance Fund
  3. Monitor insured deposits and propose appropriate coverage iv. Maintain depositor data
  4. Monitor financial condition of insured institutions
  5. Collaborate with the Registrar of Financial Institutions on supervisory information
  6. Enhance stakeholder engagement and communication

To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Need to Demonstrate:

  1. Analytical and problem-solving skills
  2. Understanding of the laws and regulations governing the financial sector and deposit insurance
  3. Communication and interpersonal skills
  4. Integrity and professionalism

Experience and Educational Background

  1. A Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or Banking from a reputable institution; OR A Bachelor’s degree in the aforementioned fields, coupled with a minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in applying the competencies above
  2. A minimum of three (3) years of practical experience in financial sector supervision; OR more than five (5) years of relevant experience in a closely related field, such as commercial banking, where similar competencies have been actively applied and developed
  3. Must be between 25 and 35 years of age
