About Kamuzu Academy
Kamuzu Academy is a selective, co-educational boarding school for students aged 11 to 18 years. It is located in the beautiful southern African country of Malawi.
It is a safe and friendly country known as “The Warm Heart of Africa”, which offers opportunities to travel and explore the stunning natural environment and the wider region, including beautiful beaches on the shores of Lake Malawi, mountains, tea estates and outstanding National Parks. The school consistently matches or exceeds local and international averages at IGCSE and GCE A levels. Kamuzu Academy is one of the few schools in the world that continue to offer classical languages such as Greek and Latin besides English, French and Chinese. The Academy occupies a large, purpose-built campus, with outstanding academic, recreational and sporting facilities in a stunning environment about 2 hours north of Malawi’s capital city Lilongwe. Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop appropriate challenging work for all students.
- To raise standards of attainment across those year groups, tracking progress effectively.
- Contributing to a broad and balanced curriculum and working with other departments to ensure the curriculum is exciting and engaging.
- Create and complete appropriate schemes of work for the different year groups at the school.
- Create and deploy resources that support the children’s learning in the subject.
- Set and mark prep each week.
- Undertake the necessary professional development to keep improving your skills in the classroom and across the school.
- Support and encourage outstanding attitudes to learning in the students.
- Recognize and celebrate student achievement
- Provide the appropriate learning support for those with Individual Learning Plans.
- Keep up to date with advances and developments in the subject area.
- Contribute more broadly to the co-curricular programme at Kamuzu Academy.
Skills & Qualifications
- A relevant degree.
- Be able to maintain good discipline within a caring atmosphere.
- Commitment to continuing professional development through attendance at all staff PD days and to make the most of all training opportunities.
- Be committed to the all round ethos of the school, and to support the school beyond the curriculum such as school events.

Kamuzu Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and questions will be asked at interview to assess the suitability of candidates to work with our children. Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy can be accessed from the Academy’s website.
All appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check and other pre-employment screening. This includes receipt of at least two references satisfactory to the school, medical fitness, qualifications check, an identity check and a self-declaration of childcare disqualification.
Recruitment Process
Candidates are required to submit a CV and a completed application form together with a supporting letter outlining the extent to which they can demonstrate their ability to do the job and meet the criteria indicated. Please submit applications to headmaster@ka.ac.mw
You should provide details of at least two referees and one must be your current or most recent headmaster.
Applications will be considered as they are received therefore early applications are encouraged.
Short-listed candidates will be contacted and asked to attend an interview soon after. Employment will commence, subject to the satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks, in September 2025.
