Local Government Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified serving and non-serving persons of Malawian Origin to fill the following vacant position:

Job Title: Assistant Disaster and Risk Management Officer
Grade: K/M8
Reporting to : Disaster and Risk Management Officer (Grade I/M6)
Location : Blantyre District Council

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assisting in coordinating all disaster risk and management activities/ issues at district level
  2. Assisting in budgeting for disaster risk management activities at district level
  3. Assisting District Council in the identification of Disaster Risk Preparedness, Mitigation, Response and Recovery interventions
  4. Assisting in training and sensitization of local disaster risk Management structures at district level
  5. Compiling reports on disaster risk reduction activities for submission to headquarters
  6. Assisting in monitoring and supervising the implementation of disaster risk management Programmes being implemented and planned at district level
  7. Maintaining a database of organizations involved in disaster risk management
  8. Assisting in identifying disaster risk management training needs for District Councils
  9. Assisting in Coordinating all Humanitarian Response programs in the District
  10. Carrying out participatory learning appraisals to ascertain root causes of problems and learn from the experiences
  11. Training youth in Disaster Risk Management and Climate change interventions
  12. Assessing training gaps in various committees and arranging trainings to address the gaps
  13. Training various committees in group dynamic, record keeping, participatory planning monitoring and evaluation (PPM & E)
  14. Liaising and networking with District Council, NGOs and other stakeholders in the district.
  15. Writing monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  16. Any other duties assigned from time to time

Qualifications

Applicants must be in possession of a Diploma in Disaster Risk Management, Development Studies, Social Work, Sociology or Psychology, Community Development or Rural Development from accredited institutions.
