Pakachere Institute of Health and Development Communication is seeking the following positions for an up-coming USAID funded Malaria and SBC Project in Malawi. This is an upcoming USAID-funded Malaria and SBC project in Malawi. The $8 million project aims to increase access to, demand for, utilization of, quality of, and satisfaction with malaria services and preventive measures. The project will operate over a 5 year-period.
Social and Behavior Change and Communication Advisor

Overview
The Social and Behavior Change and Communication (SBC&C) Advisor will offer technical advice and support to consortium members and the Ministry of Health towards the develop of a coherent and effective SBCC implementation plan aligned to the National Malaria Communication Strategy and monitor results of its implementation through consortium partners and community-based organizations. S/he will provide expertise (guidance and technical support, training, coaching and management) support to the consortium team on social and behavior change and communication (SBC&C) interventions on Malaria. The SBCC advisor will review the behavior change communication and community engagement strategies, information, education and communication (IEC) materials and the gaps in BCC for malaria prevention and control/elimination. She/he will document the process, issues, challenges and recommendations for improvements/scaling up IEC/BCC interventions in Malawi.
This position is contingent upon award from USAID. Malawian nationals are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to the TGF Malaria program by supporting the establishment of standards and quality of SBCC activities.
- Lead the design and implement SBCC, identify innovative approaches including results measurements, to show achievement of programme targets.
- Review the behavior change communication and community engagement strategies, knowledge base, information, education and communication (IEC) materials, practices and the gaps in BCC for malaria control and elimination in Malawi, with emphasis on the districts of implementation and offer practical recommendations to respond to the gaps.
- Provide technical support, training and leadership in the development of social and behaviour change communication (SBCC) strategies and support the development of materials such as SBCC tools, training modules and work guidance documents.
- Advise the programme team in adapting strategies, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of SBCC interventions, including the generic marketing activities.
- Facilitate the uptake of effective SBCC practices in malaria among the consortium members at national level and in implementation districts.
- Advise and provide technical guidance on innovative SBCC approaches which can expand use of existing and /or proven interventions. Use experiential learning during the programme to improve the effectiveness of SBCC approaches.
- Identify SBCC capability gaps amongst key partners and initiate relevant and targeted capacity building activities.
- Document the process, issues, challenges and recommendations for improvements/scaling up IEC/BCC and community mobilization interventions in the districts of implementation. Build the programme capacity in social mobilization and behavior change communications. Work with community SBC structures through District Health Promotion Officers, initiate and carry out relevant capacity strengthening of our key stakeholders such as Ministries of Health, national partners, media and others related to SBCC.
- Assist in technical reporting to the donor and other relevant partners, and in dissemination of results to wider audiences.
- Ensure timely effective communications within the organization and with stakeholders at all levels.
- Establish effective relationships with the NMCPs, partners, donor communities and community structures.
Required Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree or equivalent in Social and Behaviour Change, Communication, Marketing, Public Health or related field.
- A minimum of 7-years’ experience in directly relevant experience implementing high level social and behaviour change communication projects. Experience in Malaria SBC will be an added advantage but not necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to support development and implementation of impactful SBCC approaches, such as campaigns, developing and testing of materials, conducting community engagement and activation activities.
- Experience working on USAID funded projects is preferred.
- Demonstrable experience in the use of new and emerging information and communication technologies to reach audiences effectively and at scale.
