JOB OVERVIEW:
Beit-CURE Hospital, Malawi is looking to fill the position of Cook. Under the supervision of the Lead Chef, the the cook is responsible for Planning, Preparation of well-balanced meals for patients, guardians, co-workers ang guests. He/she is also responsible for compiling day to day as well as special events menus. The cook’s responsibilities also include ensuring food is prepared according to the number of portions required; Being able to manage food cost as well as food wastage; Receiving of foods items from stores as instructed by the supervisor; Developing cleaning schedules and periodic general cleaning.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Food and Meals preparation.
- Managing inventory.
- Ensuring that the kitchen meets food safety and cleanliness quality standards
- Serve patients, guardians, Guests and staff.
- Daily personal hygiene to be a priority
- Reporting of any maintenance work to be done in a timely manner to the Supervisor.
- Daily Cleaning of all kitchen utensils, all kitchen equipment and weekly, cleaning walls, cup boards
- Coordinating kitchen activities including required quality standards activities.
- Inspect supplies and check for freshness, equipment and work areas for cleanliness as per required
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Diploma in Food Production/Practical Cookery
- Over 3 years of experience experiencer in food management and cookery in a busy environment, those with hospital experience will have an added advantage.
- Computer literate with experience using Microsoft word.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Good organizational skills, working within a team or individual initiative
- Physical ability for working in the hot kitchen environment with noisy conditions.
- Flexibility and adaptability to the requirements of the service
- Professional conduct with respectable customer care
- Ability to be creative and develop own recipes.
- Compassion.
- Good physical stamina and strength to handle manual tasks.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to work on weekends or outside regular working hours for emergencies or special projects.
- Ability to use negative feedback to improve.
- Willingness to learn.
- Ability to work under pressure.
