ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT

Job Summary

The Assistant Accountant is responsible for assisting the Management Accountant in reconciling debtors balances as well as following up on collection of premium and claims recoveries as well as preparation and payment of statutory returns.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Validating and reviewing the debtors’ premiums from brokers, agents, direct clients, other insurance companies and Reinsurance recoveries.
  • Following up on the company debtors and advise on the problem accounts
  • Identify direct deposits made into our bank accounts and ensuring they are receipted timeously.
  • Verifying of the premium confirmation on claims files and reinsurance premium payments.
  • Preparing all technical lines journals.
  • Preparing the reinsurance treaty returns.
  • Managing Reinsurers’ receivable balances in the form of both premiums and claims receivable to ensure these balances are timely collected.
  • Ensuring all receipts are promptly allocated to respective reinsurance balances.
  • Ensuring that all reinsurance balances are reconciled quarterly and signed off as a control measure before statements are printed.
  • Preparation of VAT, Withholding Tax, PAYE and other taxes as well as Tevet returns.

Requirements

Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related qualification from a reputable and N.C.H.E. accredited academic institution.
  • Professional qualification(s) e.g. ACCA, CPA (M) or equivalent.
  • At least three year’s experience in credit management in a busy finance institution, preferably a General Insurer.
