MERL Assistant
Family Health Services (FHS), formerly known as PSI Malawi, has partnered with the government of Malawi through the Ministry of Health (MoH) since 1994 in safeguarding the health of Malawians by using private sector approaches to reconfigure healthcare delivery – (i) through directly delivering innovative social and behavior change communications, social marketing, and social franchising across a wide range of health areas including Reproductive Health, HIV, Malaria and water-borne disease prevention (ii) by playing a market facilitation role, approaching market challenges and opportunities with a system-wide lens that unlocks a self-sustaining market with multiple players that can prioritize, adapt and ultimately thrive without external assistance and funds.
To accomplish its mission, FHS is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of MERL Assistant.
Reporting to the MERL Officer the MERL Assistant will be responsible for data quality assurance generated at site level, reviewing data for errors, missing pages, or missing information and resolves any discrepancies with the team lead before the data is entered in DHIS2. Specifically, he/she will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities.
Establish data entry priorities.
- Implement and maintain high data quality standards and M&E SOP guidelines at site level
- Strengthen M&E systems and functional areas of the data management and reporting system at site level
- Verify integrity of data by comparing it to source documents.
- Maintain a filing system and protect confidential client information.
- Resolve deficiencies by using standard procedures or returning incomplete documents to the team leader for resolution before entry.
- Maintain database by entering new and updated client information.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Review client intake forms for data deficiencies.
- Maintain data entry requirements by following data SOPs.
- Monitor availability of sufficient data collection tools at the team level.
- Purge files to eliminate duplication of data.
- Secure information by completing data base backups.
- Maintain operations by following policies and procedures and reporting needed changes.
- Maintain client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- With lead from the MERL Officer, perform regular grams. data quality assessments.
- Facilitate and identify site level data challenges and provide necessary solutions.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Ability, and Skills.
- Certificate or Diploma in IT, Computer Science, Statistics, Demography, M&E certificate
- 2- 3 years’ experience in data entry
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask effectively.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
- Experience in working in a team environment preferred.
- Proficiency in standard Microsoft software.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and willing to take initiative to support team members.
- Fluency in English required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently and quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time
