CONSULTING SERVICES – DOCUMENTARY

MAY 2024

 Background

The Forum for African Women Educationalists in Malawi (FAWEMA) is a registered non- governmental organization which brings together educationalists to support and promote education for girls and women in Malawi. We work in close partnership with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Gender, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Youth and other partners to support girls and women to acquire education and training for development through advocacy and demonstrative interventions. FAWEMA is a national chapter of Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE), a pan African NGO operating in 34 countries in Africa.

FAWEMA’s Vision: A just and inclusive society in which girls and women have necessary skills, competencies and values they need to achieve their potential.

FAWEMA’s Mission: In partnership, FAWEMA fosters innovations, promote positive policies/practice, and provide opportunities for girls and young women, especially the vulnerable to develop skills, competencies and values that will allow them to be productive members of their societies.

 Overview of the Assignment

FAWEMA has developed eight[1] models that are being implemented by different national chapters including FAWEMA to demonstrate solutions that improve girls’ access, retention and performance in school. Examples of the models are Comprehensive Scholarship[2], Gender

Responsive Pedagogy (GRP)[3], Tuseme[4] Swahili word which means “Let’s Speak Out”, Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)[5], Centres of Excellence (COE)[6] and School Related Gender Based Violence (SRGBV) Model.[7] Other popular interventions are the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Mother Groups. These are clear pointers to the rich knowledge products which if effectively utilized by education stakeholders would positively transform gender education landscape not only in Africa but globally.

FAWEMA in partnership with Together for Girls, under the ‘Data for Change Programme’, is implementing the SRGBV model and disseminating Data for Change I Factsheets on SRGBV in Malawi. The model serves to capacitate educators and school administrators and seeks to create better school systems that will lead to the elimination of SRGBV in and around schools and other education institutions by:

  • Identifying prevailing forms and drivers of SRGBV.
  • Developing interventions within school systems to address the drivers of SRGBV.
  • Monitoring progress and measuring effectiveness of interventions and review and improve interventions.

The model targets duty bearers (school administrators, teachers, parents, and communities) and Rights-holders-learners. FAWEMA would like to document implementation of the SRGBV model in order to influence learning, replication and/or scaling up by like-minded partners in the education sector.

FAWEMA therefore seeks to engage a Videographer to document the success of the model for learning, sharing, and replication purposes.
