Malawi Network of AIDS Service Organisations (MANASO)

MANASO is a Network organization comprising Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Local NGOs, and International NGOs in all districts across the country. Its mandate is to coordinate the HIV and AIDS national response among Civil Society Organizations in Malawi. In addition to the coordination role, MANASO also implements activities that focus on HIV/AIDS, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), TB, COVID-19, Malaria, Nutrition, and Humanitarian response.

To achieve the implementation of various programs, MANASO, therefore, invites expressions of interest from qualified Malawians for the following position:

Grants and Compliance Officer

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director; the officer will be responsible for identifying risks that hinder the achievement of MANASO project objectives, assessing the adequacy, and recommending the appropriate internal controls to reduce associated internal control risks.

The Grants and Compliance Officer will develop a plan and evaluation tools, and then carry out independent appraisals and verifications of the effectiveness of MANASO and donor policies, procedures, and standards. H/she will verify that all staff are well-versed in donor and MANASO policies and procedures, and are adhering to such standards. And conduct an ongoing review of financial transactions

S/He  will identify gaps in existing internal control systems, and provide recommendations to strengthen them, identify gaps in knowledge and skills, and will provide recommendations for staff training.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular compliance reviews and risk assessments to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of project operations, compliance with policies, procedures, statutory laws, and the organizations’ best practices, and provide advice and recommendations on improvements to MANASO systems and procedures.
  • Work with the Executive Director and other senior members of staff to ensure that internal control processes and systems are adequate to minimize risks.
  • Through technical assistance and spot-checking, verifies that program operations comply with donor rules and regulations, applicable organizational policies, and local laws.
  • Minimizes fraud through active monitoring and close review of the organization’s practices and procedures and participates in the development of new internal control initiatives.
  • Update and report on the status of the implementation of audit compliance recommendations regularly.
  • Develop a list of best practices for implementing and improving internal controls and orient and train staff on best practices.
  • Immediately report gross misconduct or suspected fraudulent activities to the Executive Director.

Required qualifications and experience

  • A Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Accounting or Finance or Audit.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience as an Auditor in an audit firm,  experience in auditing NGOs will be an added advantage
  • Experience working with Donor-funded projects with NGO or grant-related entities.
  • Good understanding of internal audit international standards and best practices.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Information Technology, particularly computer-assisted audit techniques including the capacity to navigate financial systems such as SAGE.
  • Willingness to travel locally
  • Ability to present high-quality reports with information effectively to senior management and project team.
