Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a non-profit, independent international humanitarian organization committed to delivering medical aid to populations facing crises, with a steadfast commitment to impartiality and without regard to race, religion, creed, or political affiliation. In Malawi, MSF collaborates closely with the Ministry of Health and the local community, particularly in the Cervical Cancer project in the Blantyre and Chiradzulu districts, as well as the CBO Project in Zalewa and Dedza District.
MSFF is looking for its Blantyre Cervical Cancer Project Office:
VIA Nurse – 1 POSITION
Workplace : Cervical Cancer Project Office, Blantyre
Type of contract : Maternity Cover-5 Months
Start date : July2024
Main purpose of the position
Providing nursing care, treatment, and follow-up of patients, according to Ministry of Health and Médecins Sans Frontières protocols applied in service and universal hygiene standards/precautions, to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.
Job Summary
Cervical Cancer Prevention
- Provide individual counselling on risk factors for cervical cancer (CC), screening method, results, and treatment
- Provide sample collection for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Testing and share test result with the women
- Provide cervical screening through visual inspection of the cervix with 3-5% acetic acid (VIA) or perform a speculum exam
- Preventative treatment for cervical precancerous lesion with thermocoagulation or cryotherapy
- Provide post treatment and follow up instruction to the women
- Linkage and Refer women to tertiary level (Queen Elisabeth Central Hospital) which are not eligible for suspected of cancer or other diagnosis
- Promote and create demand for cervical cancer screening, support in health education about cervical cancer, mobilization, and primary prevention e.g., HPV vaccination
- Ensure and maintain a smooth client flow at the health facility
- Organize, keep reasonably clean and tidy the screening room and following infection prevention standards
- Follow aseptic and/or sterile principle for use of screening equipment
- Participate in quality control through image taking and external review
Sexual Transmitted Infection (STI)
- Provide syndromic management of sexually transmitted infection according to MoH guidelines
- Provide health education on the transmission to avoid further transmition to other people
- Where laboratory diagnosis is available refer the client for testing
PAVE Study
- Participate in the training on the study protocol, study criteria, enrollment, and data collection
- Engage with the community, stakeholders, health providers to promote awareness of the screening program and study
- Provide counselling and education on the HPV sample collection, cervical image collection and biopsy collection
- Communication of HPV results to study participants, support tracing of women to ensure minimal loss of follow-up Perform biopsy collection according to study criteria
- Ensure voluntary participation and written consent is given
Data Management
- Record client details and services received in the register
- Document screening in Health passport
- Participate in analysis of monthly data reporting
- Monitor the daily activities and propose solution of service improvement
- Ensure strict confidentiality
- Participate in monthly reportPharmacy
- Dispensing drugs according to MoH and MSF guidelines and label each drug clearly with name, form, strength, and dosage
- Ensure safe and correct storage of drugs and supplies
- Overview and maintain a permanent stock of essential drugs and supplies
- Overview consumption
- Avoid drugs expiring during storage, remove expiry drugs from the stock
Collaboration
- Work in close collaboration with MoH paramedical and medical staff to ensure high quality
- Support Health promotion officer to trace women to ensure minimal loss
- Maintain a respectful and active communication with other health facilities and health providers e.g., OPD QECH, Sterilization, Laboratory
- Coordinate referral pathway and arrange appointment to tertiary level
- Collaborate with logistic and pharmacy by placing order request according to procedures Report any challenges, ideas, needs or request with your line manager
