FINANCE OFFICER/UNIVERSITY BURSAR
The University of Lilongwe (UNILIL) is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced professionals to fill the position of Finance Officer/University Bursar.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the President, the Finance Officer/ University Bursar will be responsible for the performance of the following duties.
1) Preparing annual budgets and their revision;
2) Preparing management accounts and regular financial statements
3) Checking payment vouchers for accuracy and proper authority;
4) Overseeing the maintenance of ledgers and recording of expenditure;
5) Supervising and training staff in the Accounts Unit;
6) Carrying out bank reconciliations and inquiring about differences ;
7) Producing monthly Cash Flow for Work Plans;
8) Producing monthly Financial Reports and annual expenditure returns;
9) Producing monthly capital work schedules ;
10) Helping in review of internal controls and implementing new controls
11) Preparing Audit file and organizing Annual Audits
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate must have a minimum qualification of Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Accounting or related field obtained from an accredited institution with at least three years in Government / project accounting.
The ideal candidate for the position must;
a) Have sound knowledge of accounting packages ; including QuickBooks;
b) Be assertive , self –starter and good interpersonal skills ;
c) Be able to work under pressure and a problem solver;
d) Have sound knowledge in Public finance Management;
e) Be computer literature;
f) Be able to meet urgent deadlines.
