Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is a UK based International humanitarian and development organization working in 35 countries. Islamic Relief Malawi is looking for competent candidates to fill the following positions;
1. Food Security & Livelihood (FSL) Officer (Mangochi Based)
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Actively participate in the project / grant opening sessions
- Initiate and share with line manager weekly and monthly activity plans using the agreed forms and referring to the project activity implementation plans
- Provide technical support for planning (include costing) of the all FSL sub-sectors; e.g. Irrigation,agriculture, fishing, livelihood referring to the International and Country standards and specifications of the respective supplies, services and works
- Work with technical departments for planning the project activities; agree on each party role in software package (e.g. training) and hardware package (e.g. execution of facilities; irrigation system construction/rehabilitation, etc.
- Initiate the procurement of the project activities’ supplies, works and services as per IR Malawi procurement procedures
- Implement the projects activities as per the approved project documents – seeks necessary advices from the line manager whenever required.
- Ensure quality implementation of all project activities linked to FSL sub-sectors; e.g. Irrigation, agriculture, fishing, livelihood, etc…. in compliance with the International and Country standards and specifications of the respective supplies, services and works
- Work closely with the assigned Project(s) and/or District Irrigation Engineers/Officers and other IR Malawi technical staff to periodically assess the work achieved by the engaged contractors in order to process the contractors’ eligible entitlements
- Ensure all planned capacity building and training activities are implemented as per the technical departments’ training guides and requirements.
- Guided by Field Coordinator, implement FSL projects activities as proposed on project documents, including the those linked to other themes/sectors; e.g. water supply, climate change adaptation, natural resources management, protection, etc.
- Guided by the Field Coordinator, work closely with beneficiaries and stakeholders to facilitate and implement project exist and sustainability plans
- Undertake regular monitoring visits to FSL programme areas and timely report on the findings, progress, challenges and way forward.
- Guided by Field Coordinator, monitor the progress and effectiveness of FSL projects through regular data collection using agreed tools as stated on the Process Monitoring Plans and Performance Management Framework and /or project donor’s specific tools
- Draft internal and contribute to external reports (e.g. monthly, donor and other reports) following the agreed reporting templates.
- Facilitate the implementation of project accountability plans; e.g. information sharing, facilitate active participation, facilitate beneficiaries’ maintenance to feedback and complains mechanisms, etc…
- Assist in the visual reporting through timely collection of collecting media materials (photos and videos) as per IRW and donor requirements
- Ensure the timely submission of quality reports to Project Coordinator-FSL as per the pre-set/agreed internal time line in order to assure timely submission to Region, HQ, Donors and other relevant stakeholders.
- Under the guidance of the line manager (FSL Project Coordinator), develop and maintain relationships and effective communications with relevant stakeholders, including local government, national networks and other agencies working in the assigned project’s areas.
- Whenever requested and approved by line manager, represent Islamic Relief Malawi to the National and local government authorities and actors engaged in the field of Food Security and Livelihood.
Qualification & Experience:
- University Degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Irrigation Engineering, Environment and Climate Change Sciences, Disaster Management, Rural Extension and Development, Community Development or other related field
- Minimum 2 year-experience with International/National NGOs and/or UN agencies in Food Security & Livelihood, Resilience Building, Climate Change Adaptation and Irrigation Engineering, at Officer level. Experience of building capacity of beneficiaries and local stakeholders
- Familiarity with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SPHERE Standards, “Do no harm” policy, Red-Cross/Red-crescent Code of Conduct, Humanitarian Accountability Programme etc
2. Gender, Protection & Inclusion Officer (Mangochi Based)
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Provide technical expertise in new projects concept notes and proposal development.
- Initiate and share with line manager weekly and monthly activity plans using the agreed forms and referring to the project activity implementation plans.
- Provide technical support for planning of the Gender, protection and inclusion component, e.g. community based Protection referring to the International and Country standards on nutrition.
- Work with technical departments for planning the project activities; agree on each party role
- Initiate the procurement of the project Gender, protection and inclusion supplies, works and services as per IR Malawi procurement procedures.
- Implement the projects activities as per the approved project documents – seeks necessary advice from the line manager whenever required.
- Ensure quality implementation of Gender, protection and inclusion activities linked to Gender, protection, and inclusion in compliance with the International and Country standards on nutrition.
- Ensure delivery of project Gender, protection and inclusion expected results (Outcomes and Outputs) within the budget and timeframe and measurable through project MEAL Plan.
- Work closely with District Officers in charge of Gender, protection and inclusion and other IR Malawi technical staff.
- Implement community-based Protection capacity building and training activities as per the technical departments’ training guides and requirements.
- Guided by Project Coordinator, implement Gender, protection and inclusion projects activities as proposed on project documents,
- Guided by the Project Coordinator, work closely with communities and stakeholders to facilitate and implement project exit and sustainability plans.
- Participate actively to IR Malawi seasonal projects implementation (Qurbani and Ramadan)
- Monitor the progress and effectiveness of Gender, protection and inclusion outcomes through regular data collection using agreed tools as stated on the Process Monitoring Plans and Performance Management Framework and /or project donor’s specific tools.
- Ensure the rational management of inputs provided by the project for Gender, protection, and inclusion promotion.
- Contribute to external reports (e.g., monthly, donor and other reports) following the agreed reporting templates and timeframe.
- Contribute to the implementation of project accountability plans, e.g. information sharing, facilitate active participation, facilitate communities maintenance to feedback and complains mechanisms, etc.
- Assist in the media reporting through timely collection of media materials (case studies, photos, and videos) as per IRW and donor requirements.
- Ensure the timely submission of quality reports to Project Coordinator as per the pre-set/agreed internal timeline to assure timely submission to Region, HQ, Donors, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure proper archiving of project documents by filing consistently data and reports related to Gender, protection, and inclusion component in project folder.
- Perform other tasks as required by the hierarchy office in line with his/her expertise.
- Under the guidance of Project Coordinator, develop and maintain relationships and effective communications with relevant stakeholders, including local government, Gender, protection and inclusion networks and other agencies working in the assigned project’s areas.
- Whenever requested and approved by line manager, represent Islamic Relief Malawi to the National and local government authorities and actors engaged in the field of nutrition.
Qualification & Experience:
- BSc/BA degree in Humanities, Sociology, Gender Studies, Social Science, Social Work, Development Studies and or any related subject area
- Minimum 2 year-experience experience in Gender, Protection, and Inclusion in government or NGO sector at Officer level.
- Experience of building capacity of staff, communities, and local stakeholders
- Proven experience on Community Based Mal Gender, protection, and inclusion management approach.
- Familiarity with the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SPHERE Standards, “Do no harm” policy, Red-Cross/Red-crescent Code of Conduct,
