We work with over 100 countries in the fields of Arts and culture, English language, and education drawing on an intimate understanding of local contexts and contributing to achieving positive change, particularly for young people.In Malawi our focus is education and skills – enabling young people build the capability to create resilient pathways to better life prospects and more broadly helping to tackle Malawi’s unemployment challenge. These challenges are becoming increasingly acute due to Malawi’s youthful population. There is need for the rapid expansion of work opportunities and the development of skills to attain and create jobs. Better alignment of training to support the growth of the emerging labour market therefore makes the enhancement of Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) in Malawi. The British Council in line with our TVET focus on Malawi is leading the design and delivery of the EU-funded Zantchito Skills for Jobs Technical Assistance Project, the overall objective of which is to increase employability and self-employment opportunities available to young TEVET graduates and entrepreneurs, with special attention to women’s needs.
The Zantchito Skills for Jobs Technical Assistance Project has selected four Malawi Technical colleges to be developed into Centres of Vocational Excellence (COVEs) in the following sectors in Malawi:
1) Agricultural Mechanization,
2) Tourism,
3) Renewable Energy,
4) Marine Transport.
The COVEs are technical colleges which will spearhead the development of these four sectors by offering unique skills which are not currently available in the country.
British Council seeks the services of four Sector Coordinators (Consultant role) to work with the COVEs in the respective selected sectors, one in each sector as indicated below: –
1. Sector Coordinator in Agricultural Mechanization, to be based in Lilongwe at Lilongwe Technical College
2. Sector Coordinator in Tourism, to be based in Blantyre at Malawi Institute of Tourism
3. Sector Coordinator in Renewable Energy, to be based in Mzuzu at Mzuzu Technical College
4. Sector Coordinator in Marine Transport, to be based in Salima at Salima Technical College
The Sector Coordinator will report to the Deputy Team Leader of the Zantchito TA project and will be responsible for coordination and liaison with relevant stakeholders in his/her designated sector. Each Sector Coordinator will be attached to one COVE (Technical College Institution).
