About MBBS-MGHD

  • 6.8-year dual degree: Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) + Master of Science in Global Health Delivery (MGHD).
  • Integrated medical education with a focus on One Health, social determinants of health, and community-based care.
  • Principles of gender equity, inclusiveness, and social justice are embedded in the curriculum.
  • Learning methods: interactive lectures, flipped classrooms, team-based and case-based learning, simulation, and clinical teaching.
  • Graduates are trained to lead health systems and repair inequities in care, beyond individual patient treatment.
  • Fully accredited by the Higher Education Council (Rwanda) and the East African Council of Higher Education.

Application Process

  • Apply online through the UGHE Admissions Portal.
  • International applicants must validate their qualifications with NESA (National Examination and School Inspection
  • Authority).
  • Required documents: transcripts, personal statement, 2 recommendation letters, and demographic information.
  • All applications will be reviewed by the Admissions committee.
  • Selected candidates take an entrance exam and an interview.
  • Shortlisted applicants are invited for interviews.
  • Opening date: 29th September 2025.
  • Closing date: 30th January 2026, 5:00 PM (CAT).

What You Need to Know

  • All students live at UGHE’s Butaro campus.
  • Campus facilities: modern classrooms, science labs, simulation centre, digital and physical library, recreational facilities, dining hall, student housing, and teaching hospital.
  • Through the Public Service Agreement, UGHE covers tuition and boarding. In return, graduates commit to:
    • 4 years of service for Rwandans and refugees who reside in Rwanda
    • 6 years of service for international students to vulnerable populations under their country’s
      Ministry of Health.

Partners In Health/Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo (PIH/APZU), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, is offering support to candidates in Malawi who are interested in applying for this program. PIH/APZU will provide information and coaching sessions to assist applicants who require guidance or have questions regarding the application process.
