Job Description
The Instrumentation Electrician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and instrumentation systems and equipment. The successful candidate will ensure that plant equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably, and will report electrical and instrumentation issues to the relevant supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems, including wiring, lighting systems, circuit breakers, control panels, machinery, and related equipment.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and instrumentation equipment and systems.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify potential hazards, defects, equipment failures, and maintenance requirements.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation faults using appropriate testing and measuring equipment, including voltmeters and ohmmeters.
- Install new electrical and instrumentation systems in accordance with electrical drawings, schematics, manufacturer specifications, and applicable standards.
- Monitor the operation of plant electrical and instrumentation equipment and promptly report faults and abnormal conditions.
- Carry out electrical and instrumentation maintenance in accordance with established safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, faults, repairs, and equipment performance.
- Work closely with Production, Mechanical, and other Engineering teams to minimize equipment downtime.
- Perform any other duties relevant to the position as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Experience
- Grade I Certificate, Advanced Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience in a plant, manufacturing, mining, or industrial environment.
- Practical experience in electrical maintenance and industrial instrumentation will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of industrial control systems, PLCs, sensors, control panels, and related instrumentation will be an added advantage.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to safety.
