WATSAN AGENT – 1 POSITION

Main purpose of the position
Operating, monitoring, maintaining, and trouble-shooting the Water Hygiene Sanitation (Watsan) facility and its processes, according to hygiene and sanitation standards and MSF protocols, in order to ensure a proper functioning of Watsan activities to improve the health conditions of the target population.
Main responsibilities
- Performing the Watsan day-to-day activities such as collecting and sorting waste before disposal, keeping the incinerator in good working order, ensuring the cleaning and correct hygiene status of the latrines, cleaning the water storage and treatment tanks, etc.
- Knowing and applying security and hygiene standards regarding the operation of WHS infrastructure, taking care of his/her own safety.
- Informing the line manager and/or technical adviser of any incidents that might compromise his/her (or that of others) safety or security.
- Ensuring the availability and correct usage of all material and equipment.
Specific accountabilities
- Ensure waste bins in use are always in their designated locations within the Hospital premise/ properly stored at the waste zone; Ensure they are cleaned properly after waste collection and disposal as per MSF Watsan Standards.
- Ensure daily collection of waste and waste bins from the Hospital environs to the waste zone in preparation for incineration.
- Ensure waste is properly segregated, weighed before and after incineration and propoerly recorded in the designated register.
- Always keep the waste zone clean and ensure only authorised personnel are permitted within the premises.
- Respect the waste flow guidelines when handling waste and its asociated components within the waste zone.
- Take full ownership of all Watsan materials, tools, PPE, and cleaning agents,maintaining accurate stock records, forecasting reorder needs, monitoring consumption rates to minimize wastage, and ensuring that all equipment is correctly used, stored, and maintained. Reporting any missing, damaged, or expired items and coordinate timely replenishment.
- Perform scheduled deep-cleaning and disinfection of water storage and treatment tanks.
- Maintain comprehensive daily logs of activities, water consumption, waste volumes, maintenanceactions, supply usage, and any service interruptions.
- Compile weekly and monthly performance reports for the line manager, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations for system improvements.
Requirements
| Education | • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE). |
| Experience | • Previous experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment will be an added advantage. |
