Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM)
Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM) is a nonprofit Christian organization with a vision of “a Malawi where everyone has a decent place to live.” Since 1986, HFHM has supported more than 135,000 families with improved housing solutions and access to essential services, including water and sanitation. Guided by our 2025–2030 Strategy, we are committed to building more and better homes, transforming housing systems, and advancing action for housing across the country.
With funding from BMZ (German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) and the Foundation of the German Lions, HFHM is implementing the project “Strengthening Climate-Resilient WASH Services for Vulnerable Communities in TA Mwambo, Zomba District.” The project aims to enhance and sustain Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services by increasing community resilience to climate change.

| Job Summary: |
The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Project Officer will have overall responsibility for the planning, management, operation, Implementation and regular monitoring of Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM) WASH project assigned. Development of HFHM strategies for scaling up WASH activities, liaison with key stakeholders in HFHM project areas and capacity building of local communities, staff management. S/he will report directly to the WASH Coordinator. |

- Capacity building and support
- Provision of training and capacity at community and district level and also representing the organization in meetings.
- Provide mentorship and coaching of the trained groups (Committees, Volunteers etc. and mobilize and engage communities in sector issues using participatory methodologies
2. Project monitoring and supervision
- Conduct monitoring and review meetings to check on the progress of the project activities, Regular data collection for project evaluation and developing and submitting reports timely.
- Document lessons learnt, promising practices and changing stories.
3. Project financial monitoring
- Align activities as per project plan
- Ensure financial prudence as per donor/grant requirements, to review budget and makes necessary adjacent, ensure project resources are utilized within the set period and to support timely payments of suppliers, contractors and consultants
4. Project Communication and coordination
- Documentation, facilitate stakeholder meetings, shoot and produce documentaries of projects, capture photos of projects and produce project documents, brochures, success story covers, Newsletters etc.
5. Project management or implementation
- Developing work plans and set individual targets of the WASH Project according to annual implementation plans and Habitat for Humanity Malawi’s (HFHM) strategy for scaling up WASH programs
- Represent HFHM at local community and district meetings (DEC), organize stakeholder reflection and learning sessions and collaborate effectively with respective ministries at district level
- Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Rural Community Development, Project Management or equivalent qualification obtained from reputable institution
- At least 4-5 years of practical experience in the WASH sector, working with the communities.
