Video Documentary

Background
The Forum for African Women Educationalists in Malawi (FAWEMA) is a registered non- governmental organization which brings together educationalists to support and promote education for girls and women in Malawi. We work in close partnership with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Gender, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Youth and other Ministries and partners to support girls and women to acquire education and training for development through advocacy and demonstrative interventions.FAWEMA’s Vision: A self-reliant and inclusive society where girls and women are creative, innovative and skilled for their well-being.
FAWEMA’s Mission: To promote gender responsive policies, attitudes and practices that provide opportunities to girls and women through evidence-based interventions that allow them to prosper.
Overview of the Project/Assignment:
Break Free! (BF!) is a five-year program (2021-2025) implemented by FAWE, Plan International and SRHR Africa Trust (SAT), in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We also work closely with the Zimbabwean organization Rozaria Memorial Trust and the KIT Royal Tropical Institute. The program is being implemented in nine African countries: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Sudan and Zambia. With the help of locally based civil society organizations and youth groups, we are committed to the sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people. As the programme is nearing its completion date, it is crucial that stories of impact and change are documented. To this end, FAWE wishes to produce a documentary about the BF! Programme for purposes of learning and sharing.
Objectives of the assignment
The objective of the assignment is to:
- Document the successes, challenges and lesson learned of the Break Free! Programme in the form of a video documentary for learning and sharing with FAWE’s stakeholders, and partners.
- Document the outcomes realized during the project implementation and journey to the achievement of the outcomes.
- Document the process of change
- Increase opportunities for replication and scale up to other countries in Africa.
- To provide actionable recommendations based on project experience.
Scope of work
- Develop the video documentary’s overall concept and scenario.
- Conduct project stakeholder and project participants interviews using qualitative methods (KII’s, IDI’s and FGD’s).
- Interview selected participants for the video who will include the donor, project beneficiaries, Programme Officers, FAWE Country leads, Ministry of Education Officials, teachers, students, Community Members, and other interviewees as advised by the team.
- Review of the program reports to integrate project performance.
- Develop the documentary script, storyboard and voice over options for approval to be used in the film.
- Perform appropriate video filming and shoot interviews with the projects’ participants and stakeholders.
- Produce one 5-minute video, complete with subtitles.
Deliverables
- A 5-minute documentary. The documentary will focus on project experiences, lessons learned and recommendations.
- List of all the interviewees with contact details, date, location and circumstances of the interview.
- All the raw video footage and photos from the shoot.
- Signed consent forms for all interviewees.
- Provide professional resources (human and technical) to cover the shoot.
Duration of Assignment
The assignment is to commence on 25th August 2025, and final products must be delivered by 31st August 2025.
Qualifications/Requirements of the consultant
To be considered for this role you must:
- 7 years’ experience working in similar field.
- Extensive experience in producing development work-related documentaries
- Excellent technical capacities (state-of-the-art film equipment, preferably High Definition) to ensure smooth and high-quality production.
- Have a keen eye for detail.
- Have strong interpersonal skills and experience of working with a range of stakeholders in development work.
- Provide samples of similar work.
Supervision
The videographer and his team will work closely with the Communications team at FAWEMA with the overall supervision being the Executive Director.
