Banja La Mtsogolo (BLM) is a Malawian Non-Governmental Healthcare Organization established in 1987. BLM provides quality Family Planning and Reproductive Healthcare including HIV/AIDS information and interventions. BLM is a senior member of the MSI Reproductive Choices partnership which works in 37 countries globally. BLM exists to improve the quality of life in Malawi through family planning and reproductive health care services. BLM serves over 800,000 clients annually and makes a significant contribution to national family planning objectives. The organization has a national coverage, operating through 23 clinics, and numerous outreach clinic sites.

TEMPORARY FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT
LOCATION : Support Office – Lilongwe
REPORTING LINE :Finance Manager
ROLE PURPOSE
The post holder will be responsible for preparing, analysing and reporting on management accounting information, and providing managers with timely, accurate and relevant information, and contributing to the organisation’s financial management procedures to ensure that they are effective, efficient and compliant with financial statutory and regulatory requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performing the month-end procedures in the accounting software.
- Assisting the Finance Manager in preparation of management accounts, investigating any discrepancies in the accounts, providing commentary and variance analysis.
- Review month-end tasks and journal prepared by junior accountants, postings, accruals and prepayments, fixed assets etc
- Running weekly timetable meetings with the team to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- Preparation of quarterly balance sheet report and related commentary.
- Providing information to budget holders upon request.
- Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements (e.g., PAYE, VAT, Tevet, withholding tax and
- pension) and ensure financial activities comply with donor requirements.
- Reconciling all balance sheet control accounts on monthly basis.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent, those working towards professional qualification will have an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in management accounting, budgeting, or financial analysis, preferably in NGOs.
- Familiarity with donor-funded projects and Malawi’s financial regulations (e.g., tax compliance, NGO Board requirements).
- Proficiency in accounting software (SUN) preferred.
- Superb time management skills and detail orientation.
- Ability to work under pressure and to manage multiples inputs, tasks, and deadlines.
- Exercise integrity and confidentiality in financial reporting.
- Good understanding of business and financial issues.
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
- Ability to work effectively and sensitively as part of a team to achieve success.
- Proactive in seeking guidance when planning or prioritising complex or conflicting tasks.
- Ability to work with all levels of staff within the organisation.
- Ability to be flexible and understanding that sometimes requirements can change.
