
Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA)
The Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) was established by Section 7(1) of the Environment Management Act (EMA) of 2017 as the principal agency for the protection and management of the environment and sustainable utilization of natural resources. MEPA coordinates, monitors, supervises and consults with all relevant stakeholders on all activities relating to the utilization and management of the environment and natural resources.

B. DIRECTORATE OF BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION AND CLIMATE CHANGE
Job Title: Senior Climate Change Management Officer
Grade: (M4)
Reporting to: Climate Change Manager.
PURPOSE, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Purpose of the Job
To lead in Climate Change management
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement climate change related work plans, budgets for effective execution of the Authority.
- Carry out periodic assessments of greenhouse gas emissions from various sectors to be used for compilation of national communications and biennial transparency reports.
- Support mobilization of resources for implementation of climate change interventions by developing partnerships with existing sources of Finance both domestically and internationally.
- Support the development, reviev, and implementation of national climate change policies, strategies and action plans (e.g. Malawi’s Nationally Determined Contributions – NDCsi.
- Support in ensuring alignment of MEPA’s climate change initiatives with regional and international commitments such as the UNFCC and the Parish Agreement.
- Ensure climate change considerations are integrated in project formulation processes including the Environmental Impact Assessments and provide recommendations.
- Enforce reporting and verification of greenhouse gas emissions to be used for compilation of national communications and biennial transparency report under the enhanced transparency framework.
- Any other duties as assigned by management.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND PERFORMANCE FACTORS
Qualifications and Experience
- A MSc. in Environmental Sciences, Climate Change.
- At least 10 years of experience in climate change management after completing first degree.
