On behalf of our valued client, we are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Sales Officer – Regional to join their team and contribute to their success.

Position Function (Purpose)

The Sales Officer (Region) is responsible for developing sales opportunities and increasing sales revenues for food products within the northern or southern regions of Malawi.

The Sales Officer is positioned at the Regional Office and the incumbent is required to accommodate him/herself within the immediate area.  While working closely with the Processing and Warehouse and Logistics department, the Sales Officer is directly answerable to the Sales and Marketing Manager and will abide by the company’s policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

Sales and Distribution

  1. Work with key customers within the region to ensure that sales and profit targets for the period (monthly, quarterly and annual) are achieved as allocated.
  2. Identify new customers and ensure that agreements are signed to increase sales revenue within the region.
  3. Contribute to the development of annual sales quotas for the region leading to the development of annual sales targets and development of sales and distribution action plans for the region
  4. Identify and develop new profitable outlets within the northern region to support business growth.
  5. Develop and expand business with existing customers by maintain a good and sound working relationship, through making periodic visits and calls; exploring specific needs; anticipating new opportunities and make any recommendations to management where needed.
  6. Liaise with and constantly be in contact with customers within the region to ensure that they are adequately stocked and that orders are collected on time to ensure consistent supply of products.
  7. Monitor and analyse competitors’ products to determine product pricing, features, benefits, shortfalls, and market success and provide the same to management for consideration in product development and formulation of pricing strategies.
  8. Carry out shop audits, ensure that products are properly displayed, identify sales trends and recommend any improvements to support business growth.
  9. Getting customer complaints and feedback and provide solutions where necessary and report to relevant departments issues that require the assistance of other departments,
  10. Maintaining records of all deliveries, customer complaints and list of customers within the region.

Marketing

  1. Be proactive in researching marketing trends for the region and make recommendations to management for improvements
  2. Take lead in driving all marketing campaigns and related activities for the northern region reaching out to target audience.

Customer Care

  1. Manage customer complaints and feedback and ensure that all customer complaints are professionally and properly resolved,
  2. Make recommendations to Management on key areas requiring improvement based on market information and customer feedback.
  3. Maintain good professional and personal networks to support business growth.

Planning and Reporting

  1. Be part of the team developing periodic departmental workplans
  2. Provide periodic updates and reports (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly) using necessary templates on sales operations to the Sales and Marketing Manager to assist in development of necessary sales and marketing reports and recommendations to management.

Staff Management

  1. Coordinate and supervise the work of Merchandisers and shop clerks to ensure that sales and marketing targets are achieved.
  2. Be part of the implementing team on all sales and marketing initiatives and projects aimed at increasing sales volume and revenue

Any other duties assigned by Management.

Qualifications and Experience

Must have 5 years’ experience in related field and a minimum qualification of first Degree in Marketing, Economics, Business Management or related field.

Key Competencies and Skills

  • Must have demonstrated experience in developing sales strategies and implementation of the same
  • Must have good negotiation skills
  • Must have the ability to develop sales and marketing plans and related budgets
  • Must be a highly self-motivated person with a genuine drive to succeed
  • Must have excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to interact with people at different levels and maintain client relationships
  • Must have the ability to understand and analyse latest marketing trends and propose changes to ensure that products and commodities remain competitive.
  • Must be very organised and have the ability to prioritise high value activities and remain focused while working under pressure
  • Ability to use social media for marketing
  • Experience in fast moving consumer goods is an added advantage
