Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO)

Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO) is a locally registered nongovernmental organization (NGO) established in 1995 to complement Government’s efforts in in the fight against HIV and AIDS and other health related issues.

MACRO’s Vision is Malawi populace free of ill-Health” and its Mission is “Transform lives of Malawians through provision of high-quality HIV and AIDS, and other health related services”.

With funding from USAID through FHI360, MACRO is bridging gaps to maintain HIV epidemic control. MACRO has received funding to implement activities to ensure the prevention of Gender Based violence amongst AGYWs aged 25-29 years in Lilongwe Urban. The program will use the Start, Awareness, Support and Action (SASA) approach, an evidence-based community mobilization approach to prevent violence against women.

Therefore, MACRO is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position in Lilongwe.

 Job Summary

As a DREAMS Outreach Worker, your primary responsibility is to support the implementation of DREAMS activities within the catchment area. Working closely with SASA facilitators and community leaders, you will promote HIV prevention, gender equality through SASA, and economic empowerment among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) aged between 20 to 29 in Lilongwe Urban under the LIFT-UP program. You will report to the Program Field Officer.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Public Health, Community Development, or Social Work.
  • Previous experience working under the DREAMS program.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage priority populations and build rapport.
  • Sensitivity to stigma and discrimination and commitment to promoting human rights and gender equality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a passion for empowering AGYW and promoting positive change.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the group of SASA facilitators.
  • Troubleshoot field-level outreach issues brought out by SASA facilitators.
  • Conduct field visits, awareness generation campaigns, and field counseling.
  • Develop team work plans/micro-plans.
  • Organize advocacy meetings and conduct focused group discussions.
  • Conduct club sessions and assist in the formation and management of Village Savings and Loan (VSL) groups.
  • Follow up on Gender-Based Violence cases and refer them to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Support the formation of GBV crisis response teams in your catchment area in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • List and meet with community structures and key stakeholders on issues related to GBV.
  • Support the formation of DREAMS clubs and enroll club members.
  • Identify SASA facilitators, stakeholders, and condom outlets.
  • Facilitate the capacity building process of SASA facilitators.
  • Monitor and supervise SASA facilitators.
  • Organize and conduct meetings with SASA facilitators once a month.
  • Responsible for weekly report writing, record keeping, and Management Information System (MIS).
  • Maintain stocks for SASA facilitators (tools, condoms, IEC materials).
  • Record feedback from the community.
