Position: Operations Manager

Location: Lilongwe, Malawi

Reports To: Chief Operations Officer

Key Purpose of the Role

The Operations Manager will provide operational leadership and oversight across all branches, ensuring efficient service delivery, regulatory compliance, strong internal controls, and achievement of business targets. The Operations Manager supports the COO by standardizing branch operations, monitoring performance, strengthening risk and compliance, and ensuring seamless execution of Masters Finance Ltd’s operational strategy.

Key Responsibilities

1.  Branch Operations Oversight

Supervise and support Branch Managers across all branches.
Ensure that branch operations comply with RBM regulations, AML/CFT guidelines, and internal policies.
Conduct branch visits to review operational performance and address gaps.

2. Operational Efficiency & Service Delivery

Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all operational functions.
Strengthen service delivery standards and customer experience across branches.
Monitor branch turnaround times and streamline processes.

3. Business Growth & Sales Support

Work with Branch Managers to drive deposit mobilization, loan growth, agency banking expansion, and digital channel adoption.
Track branch performance against targets and lead performance improvement interventions.

4. Risk Management & Internal Controls

Strengthen internal controls across branches and ensure full adherence.
Oversee cash management, vault controls, teller operations, and operational risk tracking.
Identify operational risks and escalate to the COO and Risk Department.

5. Compliance & Audit Coordinating

Support compliance monitoring and ensure branches meet regulatory reporting obligations.
Follow up on audit findings to ensure timely closure.

6. People Management

Coach and mentor branch managers to enhance leadership, performance, and discipline.
Collaborate with HR to ensure adequate staffing, capacity building, and succession planning.

7. Reporting

Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly operations performance reports.
Present branch performance insights and recommendations to senior management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Banking, Finance, or Economics from a reputable institution.
  • Minimum 8 years relevant experience, including 3+ in a middle management role in microfinance or banking operations.
  • Strong understanding of branch operations, credit processes, deposit mobilization, and RBM regulatory requirements.Experience with core banking systems, digital financial services, and agent banking operations.
  • Strong leadership, planning, and analytical skills.Demonstrated integrity, discipline, and customer service orientation
