BCMCF-M is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of:
Position : Nursing Officer
Contract Duration : 1 year (renewable based on performance and Availability of funds)
Location : Baylor MNH – Area 25 Community Hospital
Reports to : Senior Nursing Officer
Position description and responsibilities
The Nurse/Midwife will be responsible for giving high standards of care to patients/clients under the supervision of the designated Senior Nursing Officer. As part of a multidisciplinary team, she/he will be expected to assess clients, respond to needs, recognizes abnormal findings, and escalates care. She/he should be prepared to work in ANC, Prenatal ward, Labour Ward, Theatre and both High and Low-risks.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following
- Plans and implements comprehensive quality care using the nursing/midwifery process and critical thinking
- Provide optimal care to the individual patient/client in a non-judgmental environment where patients and caregivers feel safe and comfortable
- Facilitates adherence to standard Infection prevention and control practices.
- Documents and maintains accurate records of all nursing and midwifery care activities provided.
- Prepares, restocks; and keeps clean and tidy all working areas, examination rooms, wards and delivery rooms
- Ensure that all clients are accurately and thoroughly assessed on admission
- Appropriately triages patients and escalates care in a timely manner for medical/senior review.
- Administers medication and treatment prescribed for the patients accurately and on time.
- Attends morning handovers and participates in clinical decision-making in grand rounds.
- Conducts routine educational sessions for patients and families in the clinic and on the wards.
- Participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and training programs which may be conducted within or outside the clinic if required.
- Supervises and mentors students and junior staff ensuring adherence to protocols and procedures
- Appropriately prepares and assists surgeons during operative procedures
- Analyzes data and uses it for decision making
Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of BSc Degree in Nursing and Midwifery obtained from a recognized institution with at least two years of relevant experience.
- Training in midwifery and emergency obstetrics is essential.
- Ability to work in a team oriented environment a must
- Efficient communication skills in Chichewa and English
- Motivation and enthusiasm to learn and improve
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of care
- Capacity to use critical thinking
- High level of respect and care for patients/clients
