JOB VACANCY – MONITORING AND EVALUATION (M & E) OFFICER

 

Position           : Monitoring and Evaluation (M & E) Officer

Location          : Mulanje

Start Date        : Immediately

General Description of the Role

Lujeri Tea Estates Ltd with Sukambizi Small Holder Association are in the process of designing, implementing and supporting a reforestation and conservation program in the Ruo Valley.  Lujeri seeks to employ an M&E Officer to support the design, development and implementation of the program.

Key duties Include

  1. Conduct a mapping of smallholder held plots and community-controlled riverine areas via satellite remote sensing assessment.
  2. Mapping of allocated areas being supplied by trees.
  3. Conduct data collection and monitoring for trees that have been distributed from the nursery, including, but not limited to:
  4. Seedlings distributed from nursery (Type/Number).
  5. Number trees sold catalogued by unique identification number.
  6. Number of trees planted in communal riverine plots, linked to community responsible for that area.
  7. Feedback survey of farmers to assess the extent to which the tree nursery meets their needs, including: the type and volume of trees on offer, guidance provided on planting caring for the trees, their experience of planting/ growing the trees and any challenges/opportunities for the program to adapt.
  8. Participate in developing a framework and implementation guidance for annual monitoring and evaluation of the program, including:
  9. Analysis of forest density based on the baseline work completed.
  10. Conduct an impact assessment estimating ecosystem benefits (for example shade, soil erosion, biodiversity) and risk factors (e.g. prevalence of invasion species, forest degradation)
  11. Routine and annual reporting of data.
  12. Training for data collectors (if any) on implementing the annual assessment work.
  13. Ensure all company policies and applicable Accreditation Standards are scrupulously maintained.

Qualifications and Key prerequisites

  1. Education: Degree in Natural Resources Management, Forestry or Ecology.
  2. Experience: 3-5 years working as M&E preferably Environmental or development sector, in addition payment for ecosystem services program will be strong asset.
  3. Motorcycle driving license preferred.
  4. Be ready to work on Saturdays
  5. Communications:Fluent in English and Chichewa including writing and reading.
  6. Computer knowledge: SPSS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet and e-mail knowledge.
  7. Organization: Excellent time management skills; attention to detail.
