Lotus is undertaking refurbishment and maintenance of the process plant and other facilities in preparation for production to commence in the near future.

Lotus (Africa) Limited invites applications from suitably qualified, energetic, and self-motivated Malawian nationals to join its team at Kayelekera Mine in Karonga District in the position below:

 MAINTENANCE PLANNING CLERK

Employment Type: Fixed Term (12 months)

 JOB PURPOSE

The role will support the maintenance department by coordinating and scheduling maintenance activities, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring timely picking slip creations of engineering parts to carry out duties timeously. This role is crucial in helping to optimize equipment uptime, reduce downtime, and ensure smooth operations.

The Planning Cleark will ensure that job cards are generated against the correct asset for cost purposes. The Clerk will also be fully responsible to ensure that job cards are printed and given to the correct maintenance team on time, to prevent unwanted delays.

The position will also be responsible to ensure that all job cards are returned on time and to look at the integrity of the data captured on the job card. Attention to detail and ensure mistakes are rectified before entering the data into the CMMS system. The Clerk must make recommendations to the planner for additional training for artisans, to capture accurate data onto these job cards.

REPORTING TO:  Maintenance Planner

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOR LIMITED TO:

  • Assist in planning and scheduling preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Audit Work Order completion information.
  • Maintain and accurately update maintenance records, work orders, and equipment history in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Coordinate with maintenance technicians, supervisors, and other departments to ensure timely execution of maintenance tasks.
  • Track and monitor inventory levels of tools, parts, and supplies, initiate stores picking slips as required.
  • Ensure all maintenance work is properly documented and complies with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare maintenance reports, charts, and data analyses as requested.
  • Follow up on outstanding work orders and ensure completion within required timelines.
  • Assist in developing and updating maintenance procedures and documentation.
  • Be able to perform other duties required by the Senior planner and planner as required from time to time.
  • Complete maintenance work order planning details (approved work requests) comprising:
    • Work specifications
    • Safety notes
    • Resources required (labour, materials, equipment, specialised tools)
  • Preliminary scheduled start
  • Cost centre verification
  • Resources
  • Establish, monitor and report maintenance planning KPI including:
    • Planned verse actual job time estimates
    • Backlog
    • Breakdown, planned routine maintenance and non-routine maintenance ratios
    • Planned maintenance scheduled compliance
    • Planning lead time

 QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • MSCE Certificate and Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial trade qualification
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in maintenance planning in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project) and a CMMS (e.g., Pronto) system.
  • Experience with condition monitoring systems and mobile fleet diagnostics.
  • Experience with shutdown and turnaround planning is an advantage.
