Job Title: Loan Officer

Location: Remote

Role Overview 

We are seeking a seasoned microfinance professional with strong operational, customer, and market knowledge, combined with the technical expertise to manage loan portfolios effectively, uphold compliance, and maintain strong repayment performance.

The Opportunity

This position combines field expertise with strategic influence. Candidate will be the link between customer realities and HQ decision-making, ensuring our lending policies, repayment structures, and customer support systems reflect the Malawian market. While the immediate focus is on operational execution, the role offers a pathway to a senior leadership position as our business scales.

Key Responsibilities 

1.    Loan Portfolio Management

  • Oversee the full loan lifecycle from application review through to repayment completion
  • Conduct in-person and remote applicant vetting, ensuring responsible lending decisions
  • Monitor repayment schedules and proactively manage at-risk accounts to maintain portfolio health

2.    Customer & Community Engagement

  • Build trust with borrowers through transparent communication and responsive problem-solving
  • Provide financial literacy guidance to help customers manage their loans effectively
  • Engage with agents, local leaders, and community influencers to support adoption and retention

3.    Market, Regulatory & Banking Insight

  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of Malawi’s microfinance regulations, banking compliance requirements, and industry best practices
  • Monitor competitive landscape and customer behavior trends to guide product improvements
  • Apply banking and lending expertise to enhance risk management and operational efficiency

4.    Operational Excellence

  • Implement and uphold best practices in documentation, loan file management, and reporting
  • Ensure accurate data capture for all loan transactions, both in digital systems and manual records
  • Collaborate with HQ to refine operational workflows for efficiency and scalability

5.    Collections & Recovery

  • Lead repayment follow-ups, applying a mix of customer support and policy enforcement
  • Identify repayment barriers and recommend tailored solutions for recovery

Required Skills & Qualifications 

  • Diploma in Banking & Finance, Business Administration, Marketing or any related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in the Microfinance and/or Banking sector
  • Proven track record in microfinance or banking in Malawi, ideally with direct loan officer responsibilities
  • Deep understanding of customer repayment behaviors, market dynamics, and regulatory frameworks
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage compliance
  • Respected for professionalism, integrity, and a customer-first approach
  • Passion for excellence, self-driven, and adaptable in a fastgrowing environment
  • Ambition to step into a leadership role as the company grows
