Nkhoma University is an institution of higher learning, accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). The University has three campuses; two at Nkhoma, 15km off Kamphata Trading Centre and another one is in Area 47. The University head office is within Lilongwe CCAP premises. As the university is growing, it invites applications from qualified and suitable candidates for the following positions:
- Lecturers in Social Work – 3 positions
- Lecturer in Education Foundations – 1 position
Candidates for Lecturer in Social Work position must have a minimum of Master’s degree in Social Work or Master’s degree in Social Work and Development Studies. Those with a PhD degree will have an added advantage.
Candidates for the position of Lecturer in Education Foundations must have a minimum of Master’s degree in Education. Those with teaching experience in Psychology of Education and Adolescent Education will have an added advantage.

Post Title: Lecturer
Responsible to: Head of Department
Responsible for: Assistant/Associate Lecturers
Role and Responsibilities of the Lecturer
To develop, manage and monitor undergraduate programmes. This includes associated operational administration, curriculum development and quality management and enhancement (including accreditation by relevant professional institutions where appropriate). Lecturer will work with Heads of Department to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with Nkhoma University strategy, policy and procedures, undertake research activity and engage in enterprise activity, influencing leading edge practice.
Key accountabilities
To conduct research with a high potential for international impact and profile; undertake teaching at undergraduate level, supervise students, and undertake management and leadership duties commensurate with the role.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver a wide range of effective and inclusive teaching and supporting learning activities.
- Contribute to course development and the development of new programmes of study demonstrating an inclusive approach to deliver.
- Participate in teaching initiatives at a department, Faculty and University level to develop/or consolidate teaching interests of the Department/Faculty.
- Contribute to outreach and/or Widening Participation activity within the Department, Faculty or University.
- Undertake and contribute to research, conducting individual research or collaborating with others.
- Conduct individual or collaborative scholarly projects
- Identify and attract external sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds for own research or scholarly projects.
- Present research at national and/or international conferences and/ or at other appropriate events.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of research strategies in the Faculty/Department/University.
- Undertake specific leadership roles in the Department /Faculty and contribute to institutional committees and working parties.
- Manage and support colleagues with less experience and facilitate their academic and personal development.
- Represent the Department, Faculty and University in external relations as required.
- Foster and develop internal or external networks of benefit to the Department/Faculty/University Student learning experience
- Provide innovation and visionary leadership to students and staff in the Department, Faculty and University
- Establish effective collaboration to the Departments and Faculty
- Maintain a work environment that facilitates the development of students and encourages them to perform at highest level
- Ensure the effective and accountable application of financial and physical resources
- Participate in the development of the budget for the Nkhoma University and maintain daily accounting of expenditures, donations and other revenue
Professional Status and Special requirements
- Able to undertake additional duties and responsibilities within the University
- Expected to work outside of normal office hours as required.
- Lecturers are expected to engage in activities associated with promotion, marketing and public outreach of the subject area.
- Lecturers employed by Nkhoma University are expected to exhibit high professional standards which promote and demonstrate the University’s core values
