Applications are being invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant  positions existing in the Pharmacy Department under the School of Life Sciences and  Allied Health Professions.

LABORATORY POSITION 

Laboratory Technician (1 position) 

The position falls under the academic function. The academic function represents the  core business of the University and its activities include teaching and learning,  research, consultancy and community outreach. The Laboratory Technicians are generally expected to support clients in designing and executing laboratory activities  according to standard procedures.

The Laboratory Technician will be expected to undertake, among others, the following  key duties and responsibilities:

  • Implementing standard operating procedures including laboratory rules and  regulations
  • Maintaining, repairing and cleaning laboratory equipment and accessories  ∙ Conducting or supporting demonstrations during laboratory sessions
  • Supporting and orienting laboratory users on procedures, rules and regulations  of the laboratory
  • Maintaining inventory of all laboratory resources
  • Implementing occupational, health and safety systems in the laboratory ∙ Supporting academic research and outreach services
  • Documenting and archiving results of laboratory analyses.

Required Education and Experience 

  • A minimum of Diploma in industrial laboratory technology or equivalent  qualification from an accredited institution.
  • 2 years’ work experience in laboratory work

Desired Attributes 

  • Familiarity with or ability to operate; LC-MS, HPLC, UV-Vis spectrophotometer,  FITR, Dissolution apparatus
  • Knowledgeable, mature and concerned with the academic progress of  students.
