Junior Mine Geologist
Lotus Africa seeks to recruit a suitably qualified and motivated individual to the post of JuniorMine Geologist at Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Karonga.
Reporting to the Geological Superintendent, the role involves assisting with grade control and ore delineation under the Senior Mine Geologists’ supervision. This entry-level position provides practical training in the field of geology, sampling procedures, geological software and radiation safety while emphasizing data accuracy, safety and teamwork.
Main responsibilities
- Assist in identifying ore/waste boundaries and marking ore blocks based on grade control models.
- Conduct daily inspections of dig faces and supervise sample collection from pits and stockpiles.
- Log geological data accurately, maintain proper sample handling and map lithology in active mining areas.
- Support updates to pit maps, survey pickups, geological software usage (e.g., micromine), and report preparation as needed.
- Adhere to health, safety, radiation protocols, participate in safety briefings and report hazards promptly.
- Provide logistical support for senior geologists during grade control activities and assist with reconciliation checks.
- Ensure proper care of geological tools/equipment while following operating procedures and report any issues immediately.
Requirements and qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences or a related field from an internationally recognised university of higher learning.
- 0–3 years of experience in an open-pit mining or exploration environment.
- Exposure to uranium, gold or base metal mining is advantageous.
- Basic knowledge of sampling procedures and geological field methods.
- Willing to work and stay within Karonga District.
