 Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) Malawi is a locally registered NGO that has been operating in Malawi since 1995. Through a variety of development models, DAPP complements the government’s effort in implementing the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy.

DAPP Malawi is inviting suitably qualified and experienced persons to apply for various positions for the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded project which is  implementing in Blantyre and Chiradzulu districts aiming at strengthening access to high quality and comprehensive services targeting adolescent and young people through Determined, Resilient, AIDS-Free Mentored and Safe (DREAMS) Program under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), a project called “Loto Langa” or “LoLa” in short.

The program includes several layers of interventions including Direct service delivery of HIV Testing and Family planning and condom promotion and distribution to for adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), Social asset building and HIV Violence prevention of AGYW, Economic strengthening and educational support, Families Matter Program and Implementing the IMPower Program

IMPOWER SUPERVISOR (2)-Blantyre and Chiradzulu

Report to District Technical and Community Coordinator

Job summary/ responsibilities:

Impower Supervisor is a district-based responsibility which will oversee Impower activities in the district. Impower enrols AGYWs from DREAMS clubs and Adolescent Boys and Young Men (ABYMs) in matters of gender-based violence (GBV). He/she will work with Impower Instructors to ensure that sessions are delivered as prescribed and that instructors adhere to prescribed standards. The supervisor will work in close collaboration with the Technical Coordinator and will introduce program to the district education officers to ensure smooth entry activity in the school going AGYWs and ABYMs and ensure that sessions are conducted in safe spaces. The supervisor also ensures that all resources required for the implementation of Impower are available and that collaboration with Ujamaa on supervision is existent.

Key Performance Areas

  • The implementation of Impower Activities and able to engage AGYW and ABYM, Instructors including addressing the role that GBV plays in increasing HIV risk in AGYW.
  • Liaise with Psychosocial Counsellor from time to time to ensure support on SIRA is going on well for both AGYW and ABYM.
  • The implementation of the IMpower model will ensure that ABYM is engaged in securing that a safe and secure environment for AGYW is created so they are protected from any form of sexual abuse.
  • The Impower Supervisor will ensure that instructors engage identified AGYW and ABYM in the project activities for 6 consecutive weeks as per requirement.
  • Support Instructors to recruit ABYM/AGYM into the program.
  • Together with Impower Instructors organize sessions for different IMpower lessons and activities.
  • Support and supervise ABYM in HIV and violence prevention interventions through the IMpower curriculum.
  • Secure that demonstrably improved boys’ attitudes and behaviors towards AGYW, making communities a safer space for girls and women and reducing rates of unwanted pregnancy, school dropout, and violence against girls and women.
  • Providing HIV and violence prevention sessions following the IMpower model for ABYM.
  • Work hand in hand with Siyakha agents to identify vulnerable AGYW for education support.

Qualification and Experience

  • A minimum qualification of Diploma in community development.
  • Certified Impower Instructor
  • At least 3 years of work as an Impower Instructor with experience in community mobilization
  • Passion for work with good leadership skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent writing and documentation skills
  • Have a valid motor bike driving license and can drive.
