MSF-FRANCE is recruiting suitable candidates for the position of:

HYGIENIST – MATERNITY COVER

Workplace            : Blantyre

Type of contract : 2 Months Fixed Term Contract

Start date             : June 2025

Main purpose of the position

Carrying out cleaning activities in the mission according to MSF standards and procedures to ensure hygiene and disinfection of materials and surfaces.

 Job Summary

  • Performing tasks related to hygiene and disinfection according to protocols applied in the service, knowing and applying specific hygiene protocols and security rules.
  • Maintaining clean and disinfected, the infrastructures allocated to his/her position including the furniture, doors, walls and floor and some medical material (rooms of patients, of consultation, laboratory, operating theatre, delivery room, mortuary, waiting room, storage room, kitchen, bathroom and latrines) and applying specific protocols and using the tools and equipment provided. Cleaning floors, equipment, beds, toilets and showers according to protocols and schedule.
  • Collecting and evacuating waste produced by medical structures to the designated site, previously sorted by medical staff and emptying out dustbins as often as necessary to ensure an efficient quality of care and safe environment.
  • Raising awareness on hygiene and sanitation measures amongst patients, visitors, staff, mothers to use correctly the water distribution points, latrines, hand washing points and washing areas in collaboration with the nursing and health promotion team.
  • Filling all water containers every morning (drinking water and hand washing points) and refilling when half full and for hand washing, ensuring soap is available.
  • Installing mosquito nets as required for in-patient beds and carrying out laundry activities according to protocols.
  • Ensuring proper use, storage and maintenance of the equipment and tools provided. Ensuring availability of hygiene and sanitation products and drawing up orders for on-going needs.
  • Reporting any repair or maintenance work needed related to hygiene to the supervisor, as well as any relevant information related to his/her responsibilities.

Specific Accountabilities

Hygiene and Disinfection:

  • Perform cleaning and disinfection tasks for furniture, doors, walls, floors, and select medical materials in offices, outpatient department (OPD) rooms, staff rooms, storage areas, kitchens, bathrooms, and latrines, adhering to MSF-specific hygiene protocols.
  • Clean floors, equipment, beds, toilets, and showers according to established protocols and schedules.
  • Collect and evacuate waste, including medical waste, to designated waste areas, emptying dustbins as needed to maintain a safe and high-quality care environment.
  • Fill drinking water containers daily as required.
  • Use proper PPE during cleaning and disinfection tasks.
  • Ensure soap, hand-drying towels, and toilet paper are consistently available at handwashing points and bathrooms.

Equipment and Supply Management:

  • Use, store, and maintain cleaning equipment and tools properly.
  • Monitor and ensure the availability of hygiene and sanitation products, reporting any shortages or needs to the supervisor.

Maintenance and Reporting:

  • Report any hygiene-related repair or maintenance needs to the supervisor.
  • Communicate relevant information related to responsibilities promptly and accurately.

Team and Project Participation:

  • Participate in monthly deep-cleaning schedules.
  • Attend hospital meetings, committees, and training as required.
  • Engage in additional related activities as requested by the supervisor.

  • Respect medical secrecy and always maintain confidentiality.

Requirements

Qualification                  Malawi School Certificate of Education Internally trained by MSF will be desirable.

Experience                    1 year in a similar job

Language                      English and Chichewa
