Malawi Council for Disability Affairs (MACODA)

The Malawi Council for Disability Affairs (MACODA), is a Statutory body established by the Persons with Disabilities Act (No. 4 of 2024).

MACODA’s core mandated is to promote and protect rights and freedoms of persons with disabilities. The Council is an enforcement agency of the Act and is mandated to investigate and carry out inquiries into violations of rights of persons with disabililies. The Council also champions disability programming as well as steering disability mainstreaming in the country’s development including promotion of multisectoral coordination and collaboration; development of standards and guidelines on a rights-based for disability service provision; regulating disability services and programs; promotion of measures and interventions aimed at promoting the realisation of rights of persons with disabilities and registration of persons with disabilities as well as organisations, associations and institutions implementing disability programs.

MACODA is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the tollowing vacant positions existing in the Council.

Job title: Human Resource Management Officer
Grade: MCD 5
Reporting to: Human Resource and Administration Manager
Responsible for: Supporting all functions of Human Resource Management, Planning and Development within the Council; participating in all operations and programs pertaining to Human Resource Management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparing, organising and maintaining accurate staff records and database.
  • Reviewing job descriptions in line with the changes in job requirements.
  • Supervising and assessing performance of junior staff.
  • Assisting in staff development needs assessment.
  • Supporting resource development and development of Human Resource Management policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Providing support in the process of recruitment and selection processes.
  • Maintaining records for leave, pension administration, performance appraisal, fraining and personnel administration.
  • Initiating and managing recruitment processes in liaison with relevant heads of departments.
  • Support the development and implementation of institutional work place policies
  • Managing the onboarding process for newly recruited staff.

Qualification and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field from an accredited institution with 3 years’ experience.

Personal Attributes and Specifications

  • Good practical knowledge of Malawi’s labour legislation.
  • Practical skills and competencies in organisational and institutional procedures on HR.
  • Knowledge of progressive practices in contemporary HR and public administration practices.
  • Knowledge of corporate governance ethos and practices
  • Understanding and appreciation of work place policies including safeguarding, gender, sexual harassment and complaints handling.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly innovative and computer literate.
