Head of Project* in Dedza, Malawi.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of up to 31 December 2024. There are very good prospects for an extension. The employment location will be Dedza, Malawi. The position is paid according to the Malawi Country Office pay structure.

As Head of the Project, you would aim to manage and implement projects based on specified directives in terms of content, schedule, and budget. You will be responsible for the operative implementation of WASH projects and the appropriate use of funds. You be also responsible for coordination, planning, and collaboration, correctly and duly reporting to donors and the Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Country Office.

Your responsibilities

  • Carrying out the project planning, implementation, monitoring, and the projects’ financial control according to the rules and standards of the co-financing donors (especially charity: water) and WHH.
  • Ensuring that all project-relevant support (monitoring, procurement, finance administration, etc.) is in place.
  • In close coordination with the WHH field team develop and follow up work plans.
  • Reporting to Area Manager/Country Director/Programme Coordinator on the progress of the projects.
  • Proactively supporting program development including writing proposals to donors.
  • Regular reporting to donors.
  • Closely liaise with donors and provide regular project updates.
  • Attend charity: water Malawi partner meetings and provide project updates.
  • Facilitate donor visits.
  • In close coordination with the WHH finance team develop project expenditure projections to ensure funds flow.
  • Recruiting and managing staff according to WHH’s policies.
  • Ensuring the implementation of WHH’s HR policies and their adaptation to local conditions.
  • Contributing to the development of country policies and strategies and actively participating in strategic discussions.
  • Making project purchases according to internal procurement guidelines.
  • In close coordination with the logistics department conduct tendering procedures for project-related works and materials. Monitoring of logistical procedures including inventory control and distribution reports.
  • Representing WHH in a relevant cluster (s) at state and national levels and within the humanitarian community.
  • Ensure linkages with other WHH projects in Malawi, and closely coordinate with the national WHH WASH advisor.
  • Liaise with the regional WHH WASH advisor to ensure linkages with the regional WASH program.
  • Regularly update project information in PROMIS.

Your profile

  • Professional or formal qualification, ideally a WASH technical college bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s degree is an added advantage
  • Over 5 years of professional experience in WASH
  • Coordination and organizational skills – even under a high workload
  • Proven experience working in partnership with civil society organizations and management of different stakeholders
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Able to report clearly, concisely
  • Good intercultural competences and communication skills
  • Able to make decisions on assignments
