To support this strategic direction, Masters Finance Ltd is seeking a dynamic, innovative and technically strong Head of Information Technology to lead the digital transformation and ensure robust automated and efficient processes across the business.

Position: Head of Information Technology (HoIT)

Location: Lilongwe, Malawi

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Key Purpose of the Role

The Head of Information Technology will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all technology functions at Masters Finance Ltd. This includes, but not limited to leading core banking system implementation, software development, IT security, digital channel deployment, National Switch Integration and ensuring high system uptime across the business. The Head of Information Technology will drive innovation while enforcing strict ICT governance standards aligned with Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) regulations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic ICT Leadership
Develop and execute Masters Finance Ltd ICT strategy aligned with the long-termstrategic plan of the institution.
Lead the automation of business processes and champion digital financial services
Oversee IT budgeting, ICT risk management and regulatory compliance in line with RBM guidelines.
2. Core Banking System Implementation & Management
  • Lead end-to-end implementation and upgrades of the core banking system.
  • Ensure seamless integration of modules such as deposits, loans, agency banking, mobile banking, and reporting.
  • Oversee vendor management, SLAs, change management, and system acceptance testing
3. Integration to National Switch (NatSwitch & MNOs)
Manage integration of the core banking system to the Malawi National Switch for:
  • ATM acquiring/issuing
  • POS services
  • Mobile money interoperability

Lead API development and integration with Airtel Money, TNM Mpamba, and third-party FinTechs.

4. Software Development and Digital Innovations
Oversee internal software development for institution-specific applications.
Design and manage APIs, mobile apps, web portals, and automated reporting tools.
Provide architectural guidance for scalable, secure, and cloud-ready solutions.
5. ICT Infrastructure & Cybersecurity
Oversee installation and maintenance of servers, firewalls, routers, and secure networks.
Implement cybersecurity policies: access control, disaster recovery, backup management, and business continuity planning.
Ensure the integrity and security of customer data and financial transactions.
6. Project Management
Lead and implement all IT-related projects in a methodical, efficient and timely manner.
Prepare project charters, work plans, IT related risk registers, and progress reports.
Ensure timely delivery of ICT projects within cost and quality parameters.
7. User Support & Systems Administration
Ensure 24/7 IT support for all branches and digital platforms.
Supervise system monitoring, incident response, troubleshooting, and resolution.
 Train staff on new systems and digital tools

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in ICT, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  • A Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
  • Minimum 10 years ICT experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role in a bank or microfinance institution.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
o Core banking system installation or major upgrade
o National Switch integration projects (mandatory advantage)
o Software development and API management
o ICT project management
o Managing technology teams and external vendors.
