EMPLOYMENT VACANCY: (BLANTYRE OFFICE)
AGMA Trust wishes to recruit qualified and experienced individuals to fill the position of Geologist tenable at the Blantyre office.
GEOLOGIST
Reporting to the Group Chairman, the Geologist has among other duties the following accountabilities.
- Develop and implement detailed geological exploration programs for alluvial and placer gold, including reconnaissance surveys, pitting, trenching, augering, and drilling (e.g., wash plant bulk sampling, sonic drilling, reverse circulation).
- Design and optimize sampling methodologies to ensure representivity and accuracy of gold grades.
- Prepare detailed work plans, budgets, and schedules for exploration activities.
- Conduct detailed geological mapping of fluvial systems, terraces, and palaeochannels.
- Manage and oversee pitting, trenching, and drilling operations, ensuring accurate geological logging and sampling.
- Ensure proper chain of custody for all samples from collection to laboratory analysis.
- Operate and maintain field equipment relevant to alluvial, placer exploration (e.g., GPS, geological tools, basic surveying equipment).
- Accurately log geological data (lithology, sedimentology, structures, mineralization) from pits, trenches, and drill holes.
- Collect, organize, and manage geological and assay data using relevant software (e.g., ArcGIS, Leapfrog, Surpac, Datamine)
- Interpret geological data to identify prospective alluvial and placer gold targets and delineate mineralized trends.
- Generate geological maps, cross-sections, and 3D models of alluvial gold deposits.
- Calculate and interpret exploration results, including gold grades and volumes.
- Provide geological input and support for preliminary and detailed resource estimations of alluvial gold deposits
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports (e.g., NI 43-101, JORC) related to exploration results and resource estimates.
- Prepare regular progress reports, technical memos, and presentations for management and stakeholders
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and local communities.
- Maintain detailed and accurate field notes and records.
- Ensure strict adherence to all company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture within the exploration team.
- Foster positive relationships with local communities and stakeholders.
Ideal Qualification, Skills and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field from a recognized university.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in mineral exploration, with a significant focus on alluvial and placer gold deposits.
- Proven experience in designing, executing, and managing exploration programs.
- Demonstrable experience with various alluvial sampling techniques (gold detector useage, pitting, trenching, augering, bulk sampling, drilling).
- Strong understanding of gold mineralization styles and controls in alluvial and placer environments.
- Experience working in remote and challenging field environments, preferably in tropical or arid regions.
- Proficiency in geological mapping and logging techniques.
- Strong knowledge of sedimentology, fluvial geomorphology, and regolith geology.
- Competency in geological software packages (e.g., ArGIS, Leapfrog, Surpac, Datamine).
- Familiarity with various drilling methods and their application in alluvial and placer environments.
- Basic surveying skills (GPS, total station).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- High level of independence and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.

- Adaptability and resilience to work in challenging field conditions.
- Commitment to safety and environmental best practices.
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to travel extensively and work away from home for extended periods.
