 Vacancy – Farm Manager

Location:         Kaombe Sugar Estate, Nsanje District, Southern Region, Malawi

Job Summary

We are seeking to employ an experienced and highly motivated Farm Manager to lead our 820hectare sugarcane estate at Kaombe. Our package will be a combination of a good salary and a great bonus incentive based on production KPI’s. The successful candidate will be reporting to the General Manager, and responsible for managing all aspects of sugarcane production, leading a team of over 200 labourers, and ensuring the estate operates efficiently and cost-effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day sugarcane farming operations, including planting, harvesting, and maintenance.
  • Oversee centre pivot irrigation systems and ensure optimal water usage.
  • Lead and manage a team of approximately 200 labourers, promoting a positive and productive work environment.
  • Develop and implement operational budgets and plans to achieve production targets and minimize costs.
  • Monitor and report to the General Manager on estate performance, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to achieve estate goals.
  • Work flexible hours, including odd hours, in remote areas as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Agriculture from an accredited institution in Malawi.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in sugarcane farming Management, with a proven track record of success.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems and experience with sugarcane farming practices.
  • Excellent leadership and labour management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work odd hours in remote areas.
  • Be in possession of a valid driver’s license, minimum 5 years’ experience.
