Children of the Nations is a duly registered NGO in Malawi with a mission to raise children who transform Nations. It collaborates with nationals to provide Christ-centered care for orphaned and destitute children, enabling them to create a positive and lasting change in their nations. In order to fulfil its vision effectively and excellently, opportunity has risen to engage qualified person of Malawian origin to immediately fill the post tenable at its head office in Lilongwe. COTN therefore, invites applications from suitable candidates to fill the position on a two-year contract’s renewable upon successful performance appraisals and availability of funds.

  1. Post: Education Coordinator.

Position Summary

To collaborate with the COTN-MW Director of Program and COTNI International Education Director in designing, reviewing and providing quality education in all Education programs by ensuring success implementation of teaching and learning programs, Education Standards of Service, Education goals and budgets, education policies and practices, and providing leadership. The education coordinator shall assume the role of advisor to the Country Director on all Education related matters, programs and projects.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partnering with all COTN departments in designing and implementing successful Education program, goals and project activities.
  • Effectively supervising head teacher for Primary School, ECD officer for COTN Nursery Schools, and Principal for the Secondary school (International Christian Academy)
  • Plan and implement capacity-building activities for education staff including teachers to ensure an up-to-date knowledge and skills for effective teaching and learning strategies in all COTN Schools and programs.
  • Design quality Education Annual Operation Plans, strategic goals and budgets, business plans, program and projects to support Village Partners Program and Children’s Homes
  • Provide leadership support and supervision of all educational staff and sections in the organization including designing and reviewing job description and conducting performance management reviews
  • Education Monitoring and Evaluation: Design, evaluate, implement and report on effectiveness of COTN Malawi Education M&E System
  • Academic Responsibility: Partner with the Country Director, International Education Director and Malawi Education specialist to design, review and implement Malawi Education Standards of Service (SOS) and learning expectations.
  • Collaboratively work with all heads of schools and ensure teaching and learning meets and exceeds minimal teaching and learning expectations

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Competences

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership or its equivalent with more than 5 years teaching experience, and another 2 years working in Education supervisory or leadership role, with proven competency and highly competitive evidence-based exam and disciplined results.
  • Those with a Master’s Degree in Education or Educational Leadership and experience in implementing education policies will have an added advantage
  • Ability to develop Nursery, Primary and secondary school with vast experience in administration and leadership
  • Excellent communication skills, able to effectively model the best leadership practices
  • Experience and ability to work in a flexible and cross-cultural environment
  • Emotionally stable, strategically mature and able to hold intellectual deliberations
  • Experience on implementing child protection policy and working with children from troubled backgrounds.
  • Must be a person with high integrity who demonstrates a vibrant and authentic faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Create and share, monthly and annual reports to the Country Director
  • Knowledge in computer skills and be ready to demonstrate those skills to teachers and management.

2. Post: Nurse (Physical Care Coordinator)

Position Summary                                                                                                                                                                                                       To partner with the COTN-MW Director of Programs in providing quality health services by ensuring successful implementation of Children of the Nations holistic care programs such as, physical care, spiritual care, mental care and social care standards of services. Implementing goals and budgets, physical care policies and practices and providing leadership and strategic direction for physical care department and COTN as a whole.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide effective nursing services in designated communities and at our COTN clinic located in Njewa, Lilongwe
  • Model effective health services and strategies with all children, COTN staff and stakeholders.
  • Provide first aid care before referring patients to the hospitals.
  • Manage day to day clinic activities; Ensure availability of drugs, patient care and proper record keeping.
  • Provide quality health education to both children, staff and COTN communities
  • Manage the successful implementation of feeding programs in Village Partnership Program Centers and Children’s Homes program
  • Monitor nutritional status of children and staff as well as community where COTN works.
  • Prepare and submit high quality monthly and annual reports to the Director of Programs/Country Director.
  • Create annual goals and budgets for the physical care department
  • Conduct staff performance management reviews with subordinates/staff.
  • Advocate for children and their communities, raising awareness of their needs and inspiring others to engage in the organization work

 Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Competences                                                                                       

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with more than 5years of working as a nurse with proven competency and highly competitive evidence-based child care
  • Experience working in children’s nutrition, Community health nursing or WASH programs have an added advantage
  • Excellent communication skills, able to effectively capture and convey corporate ideas
  • Experience and ability to work in a flexible and cross-cultural environment
  • Experience on implementing child protection policy and working with Children from troubled backgrounds.
  • A Pro-active person who is able to work independently and at the same time a good team player
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Mature Christian, a person with high integrity who has the potential to provide spiritual counselling and parental advice when need be.
  • Computer literate (proficiency in MS Word, Excel)
