BCMCF-M is seeking qualified candidates to fill the positions of:
Position: Dental Therapist
Contract Duration: 1 year (possibly renewable)
Location: Mitundu, Kabudula, Nathenje, Lumbadzi, Chitedze, Kawale, Area 18, Area 25.
Reports to: Study Coordinator
STATUS: Full time (40 hours per week).
Position description and responsibilities
We are recruiting 4 Dental Therapists for the Xylitol and the Prevention of Periodontal disease and Preterm birth (XaPPP) Research Study to be conducted in hospitals and health centers across the Lilongwe district.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following
- Assist in conducting sensitization and study awareness campaigns.
- Assisting with study participant screening, consenting, enrolling and follow-up.
- Conducting morning talks to pregnant women on oral health and periodontal disease.
- Conducting oral health examination and periodontal disease clinical monitoring on all study participants using WHO oral health assessment form, periodontal disease clinical monitoring form, and any additional forms as requested/recommended by the study leadership/PI
- Providing/recommending dental disease treatment to study participants.
- Accurately collecting, labeling and managing dental specimens (oral swabs and dental plaques).
- Providing high-quality clinical care and counselling to participants, particularly on oral health and periodontal disease.
- Supporting data collection, entry, validation, and research documentation
- Coordinating with investigators, research teams, and clinical staff to ensure smooth study implementation
- Participating in trainings and stakeholder meetings.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to Good Clinical Practice standards
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Dental Therapy
- At least 1 year of experience conducting comprehensive oral health examination including assessment of gingival recession, periodontal probing depths, bleeding on probing, dental caries evaluation (e.g. decayed missing filled teeth (DMFT) index)
- Clinical or research experience, in any of maternal health, child care, or orals health/periodontal disease management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in Chichewa and English
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and in community settings
- Computer literacy (Word and Excel) and accurate data management skills
- Willingness to be trained on oral health assessment and periodontal disease management.
- Willingness to relocate to assigned study sites.
