Background
Community Finance Limited (CoFi) is a microfinance institution in Malawi and a wholly owned subsidiary of Tradeline Corporation Group Limited. CoFi is dedicated to providing innovative financial solutions to the unbanked and underbanked, with a particular focus on supporting the agriculture sector and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Position Summary
As part of our growth strategy, CoFi is seeking a Senior Credit and Investment Officer to strengthen our credit and investment operations. The ideal candidate will be mission-driven, analytical, and experienced in evaluating, approving, and managing credit and investment portfolios.
The position requires strong financial analysis, risk assessment, and strategic decision-making skills to support the organisation’s financial objectives. The Officer will also engage with clients to understand their needs, design tailored financial solutions, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Marketing and Business Development
- Research and analyse local markets to identify key business drivers, trends, and competitor activity to support market expansion.
- Design innovative financial products, services, and delivery channels that meet client needs.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies and plans to attract and retain clients.
- Strategy and Business Operations
- Coordinate goal setting, performance measures, and work plans for the Portfolio Business Unit.
- Develop and implement customer service and loan portfolio growth strategies.
- Monitor and evaluate the company’s portfolio performance.
- Establish strategic partnerships with organisations, business networks, and service providers to enhance business outreach.
- Integrate all loan products within CoFi’s overall operational framework.
- Risk and Compliance
- Implement and continuously improve CoFi’s risk management and credit policies.
- Monitor risk control mechanisms to ensure effectiveness.
- Address findings from internal and external audits in a timely manner.
- Analyse and recommend loans applications
- Delinquency Management
- Monitor loan book performance to maintain high-quality portfolios.
- Manage legal recovery processes for non-performing loans.
- Coordinate the disposal of ceased collateral assets.
- Maintain the Portfolio at Risk (PAR) below 5% through proactive loan monitoring and collections.
- Take prompt action on overdue accounts in line with CoFi’s delinquency management policies.
- Prepare and submit reports on delinquent accounts for appropriate recovery action.
- Operations Management
- Ensure responsible client protection practices in line with CoFi standards.
- Oversee timely loan processing and disbursements in compliance with lending policies.
- Track and resolve customer complaints efficiently.
- Ensure timely entry of loan data into financial systems.
- Prepare performance and compliance reports for internal management and external stakeholders, including the Reserve Bank of Malawi.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Banking and Finance, Microfinance, or any business-related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the banking or financial services industry with a proven track record in credit origination and loan portfolio management.
- Strong knowledge of banking operations, credit risk management, and relevant financial regulations.
- Excellent analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and banking software applications.
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
- A results-oriented team player with strong numerical and problem-solving abilities.
