Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM), an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, is a non-profit Christian organization dedicated to improving housing conditions in Malawi. Established in 1986, HFHM has supported more than 133,600 people to access safe and decent housing. Guided by our vision, “A Malawi where everyone has a decent place to live”. HFHM operates from its head office in Area 14, Lilongwe, with active programs in Lilongwe, Blantyre, Zomba, Thyolo, Mulanje, Dedza, and Mzuzu.

Habitat for Humanity Malawi seeks to recruit a Construction Supervisors to support its projects with initiative of constructing houses for the vulnerable groups.

This recruitment is part of the organization’s institutional strengthening and strategic realignment process in line with the new Country Strategy (2025–2030). The strategy emphasizes three focus areas:

Job SummaryThe Construction Supervisor oversees the implementation of construction activities for the projects.  The role ensures that all construction work is well supervised, coordinated, and executed according to organizational requirements, national construction standards, and project-specific structural and environmental sustainability criteria, with a strong focus on preventing groundwater contamination and depletion and delivering high-quality, long-lasting construction outcomes.
Reports to:Construction Specialist

Main Responsibilities

  1. Construction Oversight & Quality Assurance (Outcome Delivery)
    • Deliver major construction outcomes on schedule, including the completion of all water supply systems, lined pit latrines, and ecological latrines.
    • Coordinate daily construction tasks and site operations according to priorities and planned schedules, ensuring efficient management of community artisans.
  2. Safety, Training & Team Management
    • Oversee and ensure that safety rules and procedures are strictly followed at all sites in accordance with safety guidelines.
    • Recruit, mentor, train, and manage community artisans and delegate responsibilities to contractors.
  3. Logistics, Materials & Environmental Compliance
    • In conjunction with the WASH Project Officer, order all required construction materials as advised by the Construction Specialist and in line with Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
    • Liaise with the Construction Specialist to implement water supply infrastructure construction that prevents groundwater depletion and ensures long-term environmental sustainability.
  4. Reporting and Administration
    • Report project status and all technical information to the Construction Specialist (Weekly, Bi-weekly, and monthly).
    • Produce Daily Site Reports or Construction Site Inspection Reports for use at the site and Field Office levels.

Qualifications and experience

  • Diploma in Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, or NCIC Foremanship Level II.
  • A minimum of 5 years of working experience in construction supervision, with a preference for experience in housing construction and WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) infrastructure projects.
