Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM) is a nonprofit Christian organization with a vision of “a Malawi where everyone has a decent place to live.” Since 1986, HFHM has supported more than 135,000 families with improved housing solutions and access to essential services, including water and sanitation. Guided by our 2025–2030 Strategy, we are committed to building more and better homes, transforming housing systems, and advancing action for housing across the country.
With funding from BMZ (German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) and the Foundation of the German Lions, HFHM is implementing the project “Strengthening Climate-Resilient WASH Services for Vulnerable Communities in TA Mwambo, Zomba District.” The project aims to enhance and sustain Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services by increasing community resilience to climate change.

| Job Summary: | The Construction Supervisor oversees the implementation of construction activities for Strengthening climate-resilient WASH services for vulnerable communities in Zomba District, project. This involves managing the successful construction of WASH infrastructure, which includes reliable water supply systems, structurally sound lined pit latrines, and functional ecological latrines. The role ensures that all construction work is well supervised, coordinated, and executed according to organizational requirements, national construction standards, and project-specific structural and environmental sustainability criteria, with a strong focus on preventing groundwater contamination and depletion and delivering high-quality, long-lasting construction outcomes. |

1. Construction Oversight & Quality Assurance (Outcome Delivery)

- Deliver major construction outcomes on schedule, including the completion of all water supply systems, lined pit latrines, and ecological latrines.
- Coordinate daily construction tasks and site operations according to priorities and planned schedules, ensuring efficient management of community artisans.
- Standards and best practices (e.g., Malawi Safer House Construction Guidelines).
2. Safety, Training & Team Management

- Oversee and ensure that safety rules and procedures are strictly followed at all sites in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Recruit, mentor, train, and manage community artisans and delegate responsibilities to contractors.
- Emphasize the safe use of tools, machinery, and equipment, including training on safety gear, housekeeping, and all safety precautions.
3. Logistics, Materials & Environmental Compliance

- In conjunction with the WASH Project Officer, order all required construction materials as advised by the Construction Specialist and in line with Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
- Liaise with the Construction Specialist to implement water supply infrastructure construction that prevents groundwater depletion and ensures long-term environmental sustainability
4. Reporting and Administration
- Report project status and all technical information to the Construction Specialist (Weekly, Bi-weekly, and monthly).
- Produce Daily Site Reports or Construction Site Inspection Reports for use at the site and Field Office levels.
