 Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a non-profit, independent international humanitarian organization committed to delivering medical aid to populations facing crises, with a steadfast commitment to impartiality and without regard to race, religion, creed, or political affiliation. In Malawi, MSF collaborates closely with the Ministry of Health and the local community, particularly in the Cervical Cancer project in the Blantyre district, as well as the CBO Project in Zalewa and Dedza District. The CBO Project supports Sex Workers’ Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), facilitating access to essential medical services in sex-work hotspots of Dedza and Zalewa.

CASHIER – 1 POSITION

Workplace                   :        Blantyre-Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital

Type of contract        :        1-year Fixed Term Contract

Start date                      :    July 2024

Main purpose of the position

Performing cash transactions, verifying supporting documentation, and maintaining records according to MSF standards and local finance policies.

Job Summary

  • Controlling and monitoring cash payments from the cashbox and coding and recording cash transactions in the daily cashbook and accounting system,
  • Performing daily cash counts and investigating any discrepancies.
  • Perform month end cash count in the accounting system before closing of the month.
  • Following-up with the IPD/OPD manager for patients list to facilitate the payments.
  • Carrying out transfer requests between patient’s cash box and CC cash box.
  • Ensure any phone money transfer is recorded in the cash box for patient payments
  • Checking and verifying the transport vouchers
  • Performing weekly and monthly reconciliations before closing the weekly and monthly advances. Specific Accountabilities
  • Responsible for the patient cashbox.
  • Providing transport voucher to the patients and their guardians in OPD, IPD and chemo patients: Respecting the patient pathway and providing transport after social worker session
  • Respecting the process and the rules implemented.
  • Responsible for daily cash disbursement for patient transport
  • Responsible for Recording the transports issued in the accounting system (unifield),after justifying the vouchers
  • Ensure to have enough cash in the cashbox for the smooth activity flow.
  • Responsibe for requesting voucher books to managers when are about to finish.
  • Make sure all the receipts are signed by the activity managers before handed over to administration.
  • All vouchers should be complete and accurate
  • Ensure no any other form of payment except the patient transport is made before validation by the Finance manager

Requirements

Education A minimum of a Diploma in Finance or Administration
Experience At least 1 year experience in accounting.
Knowledge Literate in MS excel and word.
Languages English and Chichewa essential
