CALL FOR PROPOSALS TO PROVIDE EXTERNAL AUDIT SERVICES TO THE MALAWI ENVIRONMENTAL ENDOWMENT TRUST (MEET)
BACKGROUND
MEET is an independent organization that was established in 1999 by various stakeholders including the Government of Malawi (GoM) under the Trustees Incorporation Act of 1962 of the Laws of Malawi. The organization was incorporated on the 5th March 1999.
MEET’s mission is to mobilize and disburse financial resources and manage financial mechanisms from diverse sources and partnerships in order to support actions that yield positive environment and natural resources conservation results and contribute to sustainable social and economic development.
CONTEXT
MEET seeks to engage the services of a reputable firm on a three-year contract renewable on a yearly basis, to provide external audit services of its financial statements beginning year ended 31st December 2024. MEET hereby solicits proposals from interested firms to submit technical and financial proposals for this exercise.
OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The objective of the assignment is to obtain reasonable assurance that the financial statements reflect a true and fair view of the financial position of the Trust. The audit will be performed in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”) and International Standards of Auditing (“ISA”).
The audit report will include an Independent Auditors Report (Opinion) on the financial statements.
SCOPE OF WORK
The External Audit will be conducted from MEET offices in Blantyre and may include travel to MEET sub grantees in all the three regions of Malawi.
The audit will be in conformity with International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”) and International Standards of Auditing (“ISA”). The findings and recommendations shall include an action plan for MEET and accounting improvements depending on findings and its implications and shall accommodate management comments.
DELIVERABLES
The key deliverables will be:
- Audited Financial Statements indicating if accounting standards have been applied and whether they reflect a true and fair view of the financial position of the Trust.
- Management Letter where matters that are not material to the financial statements, but which the auditors wish to communicate to MEET may be reflected for management action.
ELIGIBILITY
Eligible Audit firm shall meet the following criteria:
- Compliance with legal requirements of registration.
- Experience of the audit firm with audit reporting under International Financial Reporting standards (IFRS) and International Standards on Auditing (ISA).
- References for similar audits performed within the last three years.
- Registration with the Malawi Accountants Board.
- Provide Audit Methodology, Proposed Work-plan, Curriculum Vitae for the Audit Partner, manager and key staff proposed for the audit team.
