Biomass Plant Technician

Background

ETG Climate Solutions is establishing a biomass production facility in Lilongwe, Malawi. The plant will play a key role in developing a reliable biomass value chain covering feedstock aggregation, processing, densification, storage, logistics, and supply to industrial customers. The business will serve customers across sectors including dairy, breweries, food processing, tobacco, tea, manufacturing, industrial boilers, and clean cooking, helping them reduce their reliance on conventional fossil fuels through cost-effective, sustainable biomass alternatives. The Biomass Plant Technician will be responsible for preventive maintenance and repairs of all the machinery and electrical installations of the biomass plant.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect, operate, and maintain electrical and instrumentation systems of the biomass pellet plant and auxiliary equipment.
  • Identify, fault-find, and troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and control-panels related issues.
  • Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance to ensure reliable plant operation with minimum downtime.
  • Carry out testing, calibration, and basic maintenance of plant and laboratory equipment (Bomb Calorimeter, Moisture Analyzer/Oven, Muffle Furnace, and Precision Weighing Balance)
  • Monitor electrical and instrumentation equipment for abnormal conditions and take corrective action.
  • Support plant start-up, shutdown, and routine maintenance activities
  • Maintain maintenance records and ensure compliance with health, safety, and housekeeping requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

Education: Diploma in Electrical Engineering City and Guilds or Level 3 Certificate in Electrical Installations or General Fitting.

Experience: with 2–5 years of experience in industrial plant maintenance, preferably in biomass pellet, briquette, feed mill, wood-processing, or similar industries.

Skills: Candidates should have good knowledge of electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting, preventive and breakdown maintenance, equipment calibration, and industrial safety.
