Background

Banja La Mtsogolo (BLM) is a Malawian Non-Governmental Healthcare Organization established in 1987.  BLM provides quality Family Planning and Reproductive Healthcare including HIV/AIDS information and interventions. BLM is a senior member of the MSI Reproductive Choices Partnership which works in 43 countries. BLM exists to improve quality of life in Malawi through family planning and reproductive health care services. BLM serves over 800,000 clients annually and makes a significant contribution to national family planning objectives. The organization has national coverage, operating through 25 clinics, and numerous outreach clinic sites.

BEHAVIOURAL CHANGE COMMUNICATION INTERVENTION OFFICER (2 POSITIONS)

LOCATION              : Mangochi and Thyolo Districts

REPORTING LINE    : Demand Generation Manager

Role Purpose

The post holder to be responsible for mid-level leading of effective and efficient planning, prioritization, implementation, documentation, monitoring and evaluation of BLM’s Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Behavioural Change education, community mobilisation and demand creation communication strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective and efficient Sexual and Reproductive (SRH) Behavioural Change Communications (BCC) education and demand creation team tailor made action plans.
  • Coordinate and manage a network of Reproductive Health Assistants (RHA) community-based agents in implementing effective Interpersonal Communication (IPC) demand creation and education strategy as well as RHA incentive scheme.
  • Securing, organisation and management of corporate client SRH education and service demand creation for outreach teams
  • Coordinate and provide periodic reporting of Sexual and Reproductive (SRH) Behavioural Change Communications Interventions (BCCI) progress reports and analysis to Operations Directorate.
  • Support BCCI Manager in formulating and delivering community mobilization, education and general community outreach strategic plans for effective promotion and uptake of SRH services in impact communities and BLM Centres.
  • Support in concept development, creative design, testing and production of effective and efficient BCCI products, services and demand creation and education tools.
  • Compile monthly and quarterly reports for BLM service channels informing progress status and identifying opportunities on SRH education and demand creation programs.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by Demand Generation Manager and Director of Programs and Operations.

Qualification, Experience, Competencies and Skills

  • Degree in Media for Development/ mass communication/ Community Development or any related field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in “Changing Mindsets” communications with at least 2 years’ experience in practical community mobilisation preferably with poor and hard to reach communities.
  • Effective team leadership, planning and organisation and ability to work with young people is a must.
  • Hands-on skill sets in modern audio, visual, graphic design, photography and motion picture software will be an advantage.
  • Highly innovative, inspirational and persuasiveness, collaborative approach to team working and strong personal commitment to the BLM goals and vision.
  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of key issues around reproductive health (HIV/AIDS, Family Planning, Maternal Health)
  • Strategic thinker with experience in developing and implementing interactive communication concepts.
  • Outgoing, adaptable, driven, diplomatic, liberal.
  • Analytic, Persistent, driven, decisive, meticulous and results oriented.
  • Energetic, high integrity, enthusiasm.
  • High degree of proficiency in modern media and community mobilisation.
  • Pro-Choice
  • Able and willing to travel extensively.
  • Average proficiency in Yao and Lomwe languages respectively.
