
Malawi Council for Disability Affairs (MACODA)
The Malawi Council for Disability Affairs (MACODA), is a Statutory body established by the Persons with Disabilities Act (No. 4 of 2024).
MACODA’s core mandated is to promote and protect rights and freedoms of persons with disabilities. The Council is an enforcement agency of the Act and is mandated to investigate and carry out inquiries into violations of rights of persons with disabililies. The Council also champions disability programming as well as steering disability mainstreaming in the country’s development including promotion of multisectoral coordination and collaboration; development of standards and guidelines on a rights-based for disability service provision; regulating disability services and programs; promotion of measures and interventions aimed at promoting the realisation of rights of persons with disabilities and registration of persons with disabilities as well as organisations, associations and institutions implementing disability programs.
MACODA is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the tollowing vacant positions existing in the Council.
Job Title: Assistant Rehabilitation Officer (3 Positions)
Grade: MCD 6
Reporting to: Rehabilitation Manager
Responsible for: Provision of implementation of community based inclusive development programs al the district level for the promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities
Duties
- Conduct the identification, initial assessment and referral of persons with disabilities
- Maintain a database of persons with disabilities and organizations implementing disability programs in an assigned catchment area.
- Provide training on the Persons with Disabilities Act, National Disability Policy and other relevant documents.
- Plan and implement activities aimed at creating public awareness on disability rights in the catchment area.
- Provide counseling services to persons with disabilities and their guardians
- Supervise the day-to-day tasks of Community Rehabilitation Assistants and Community Rehabilitation Volunteers
- Promote inter-agency collaboration in line with the cross-cutting nature of disability
- Draw and implement rehabilitation plans.
- Compile and submit reports to the Rehabilitation Manager and other partners
- Ensure that family members are involved in the rehabilitation process.
- Handle complaints on the violation of the rights of persons with disabilities
- Investigate any matter relating to violation on the rights of persons with disabilities
- Assist in the mobilization of resources at district level for disability programming and interventions
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Community Development, Social Work or any Social Science Degree, project management, or Special Needs Education with 3 years relevant working experience.
Personal Attributes and Specifications
- Be conversant with human rights issues affecting persons with disability in Malawi
- Computer literacy skills
- Experience in stakeholder collaboration and resource mobilization.
