Vacancy – Assistant Mechanic

Location: Sande Sugar Estate, Chikwawa District, Southern Region, Malawi

Job Summary

Cattle Feedlot Company is a dynamic agricultural enterprise based at Sande Sugar Estate. We specialize in sugarcane cultivation, supported by a fleet of tractors, vehicles, and irrigation systems. We are seeking to employ a dedicated and hands-on Assistant Mechanic to join our workshop team and support the maintenance of the estate machinery.

Reports to: Workshop Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Service and maintain estate vehicles, tractors, and trailers.
  • Assist in diagnosing mechanical faults and carrying out repairs.
  • Support the maintenance of irrigation pumps and related equipment.
  • Perform oil changes, brake checks, filter replacements, and general mechanical tasks.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the workshop.
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by the Workshop Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Motor Vehicle Mechanics Certificate Level 2 or 3 (Trade Test Grade 1) or City and Guild Certificate.
  • Service and maintain estate vehicles, tractors, and trailers.
  • Assist in diagnosing mechanical faults and carrying out repairs.
  • Support the maintenance of irrigation pumps and related equipment.
  • Perform oil changes, brake checks, filter replacements, and general mechanical tasks.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the workshop.
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by the Workshop Manager.
  • Be in possession of a valid driver’s license, minimum 5 years’ experience.

Key Skills

  • Trade Test Certificate Grade 1 in Motor Vehicle Mechanics from TEVETA or equivalent.
  • City & Guilds or other recognized vocational qualifications are an added advantage.
  • Valid driver’s license is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • No previous criminal records
