JOB VACANCY – ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT

 Position           : Assistant Accountant

Location          : Mulanje (Tea Estate)

Start Date        : July 2024

General Description of the Role

Working in a Tea Estate, the Assistant Accountant will report to the Company Accountant. He/she  will be part of the account’s team ensuring that all transactions are accounted for accurately and in time for monthly and yearly reporting.

Key requirements include

  1. Maintain the general ledger, prepare tax returns, and perform other accounting duties as assigned.
  2. Work on with the team on weekly and monthly cash flow requirements and monthly management accounts preparation.
  3. Ensure that all transactions are captured before the monthly deadline.
  4. Assist with regular stock counts and provide top management with regular updates on stocks.
  5. Assist with the preparation of Income Tax and Deferred Tax Computations as well as AFS preparation and ensure that all MRA payments are done on time.
  6. Assist with financial and tax audits.
  7. Deal with the banks, purchasing unit and stock representatives on importation of goods and services and payment of foreign suppliers.
  8. Ensure all company policies and applicable Accreditation Standards are scrupulously maintained.

Qualifications and Key prerequisites

  • CIMA Diploma in Management Accounting or ACCA Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business.
  • More than 6 years of general accounting experience in a private corporate environment
  • Agricultural industry experience is desirable but not compulsory.
  • Motorcycle driving license preferred.
  • Be ready to work odd hours including Saturdays.
  • Computer Knowledge – Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to handle internal and external stakeholders.
  • Team-oriented and willing to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic, willing to take on responsibilities and challenges.
  • Highly organized with good attention to detail.
  • Need to have at least three traceable referees.
